If you could choose any hotel in Hawaii...
Please help me with my Hawaii planing. Keeping in mind that we enjoy the pool more than the beach... (but do enjoy walking the beach) and like to enjoy nice accomodations and fine food... which hotel on any island would you choose? I would love to get some suggestions.

The Hyatt in Kauai has wonderful pools.
We haven't stayed at the Grand Wailea, but I do have to agree that the pools look terrific.
You can find fine food and lovely beaches on any of the islands.
If I could choose any hotel that I hadn't already stayed in: Four Seasons on the BI, Grand Wailea on Maui, and I think Halekulani on Oahu. If I was limited to hotels I'd already been to then it would be the Grand Hyatt Kauai.

if you have got the time just go to big island for start/end of trip.
if i were in your shoes i would never waste my time on big island for obvious reasons.
but depending on taste and style i would definately go back to lanai and the four seasons

happy planning!

We stayed at the Mauna Lani once, and it's very nice. But we noticed some private bungalows on the beach, at the hotel directly below the Mauna Lani. They looked very exclusive and beautiful. They were at the Fairmont Orchid, and I assume it's still under that ownership.
As stated above by Divine: "i would never waste my time on big island for obvious reasons." Whatever that means. . .

Any hotel in Hawaii? Maybe the Hotel Hana Maui. Or the villa at the Hapuna Prince, or the beachfront bungalows at the Fairmont Orchid. Or maybe some time at the Manele Bay Hotel on Lanai, with some days at the Lodge at Koele.
I am not a huge fan of the Kauai Hyatt. It doesn't have a swimable beach, and it is full of kids and wedding parties. It's a nice hotel, but not a great exclusive hotel.
The Hyatt Kanapali is really busy and full of people.
Oh, and it would help, Jenn, if you would tell us how much you would pay for accomodations. The Hapuna Prince villa was going for $7000 a night.

The Big Island is actually our favorite Hawaiian island. So much to do there, slightly more laid-back.
Divine's "obvious reasons" aren't so obvious! (There are a few odd posts by divine54 lately, on other threads, so apply a grain of salt here.)

Thank you all for the replies. We have stayed at the Grand Hyatt- and loved it. We will probably return but I was curious to hear what other hotels were really loved. We would love to try the pools at the GW but have walked through and cannot imagine dealing with the millions of screaming childrens during vacation. I had been thinking about the Princeville resort - any thoughts on that one? Or maybe splitting our time between the two ends of Kauai?

if one, the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island
but if not that, then the following by island:
BI: Kona Village Resort (for a rustic Hawaiian experience)
Maui: Hotel Hana Maui (for the serenity) or Four Seasons Maui (for the pampering and beach)
Lanai: Four Seasons Manele Bay (for relaxation)
Oahu: Halekulani (for the service) or Turtle Bay Resort (for the North Shore experience)
Kauai: Princeville when it re-opens as a St Regis in 2009 (for the VIEWS)
