Ice Palace Tampa, Fl/Hotel Accomodations

Hello All:

Could any recommend an affordable hotel and that is easily accessible to the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida. They informed me that Wyndham Harbor, Hyatt and Marriott are within walking distance. Could anyone suggest a reasonable hotel that is close to transportation to/from Ice Palace. If so, would you know what time the transportation stops? Thanks in advance.

Denise, Have you checked the room rates at those hotels? I think you might be amazed at what you might find. The travel industry has been seriously impacted by the pull back in business travel, compounded by the events of last week. Do check their prices before ruling out affordability.

There's also a Holiday Inn, I believe it is, downtown. Have no idea what sort of shape it is in, but the firt 3 you mentioned would be my first choices.

Thanks for the quick response but the Wyndham, Hyatt and Marriott rates range in the $200s. Any more advance. Thanks.

Denise, My husband runs a hotel in Tampa, but not downtown. Every piece of group business they had on the books for the rest of September has cancelled. Room rates are being determined from week to week and although this is a 4 star hotel and none of those are, I doubt even he is getting $200 a night right now for his rooms!

He just came in so I can tell you, he is not. He said too that if you are coming anytime within the next 3 months he can pretty much guarantee that you will get a better rate than $200/night and suggests you call the hotels directly, not a central reservations line. (He runs another hotel in one of these chains, but not downtown--we are 15-20 min from downtown on the bay but he's aware of the other rates in town). Marriott Waterside is 813-221-4900. Hyatt is 813-225-1234. Wyndham Harbour Island is 813-229-5000. These are all very close to the Ice Palace. There is also a brand new Marriott Courtyard downtown at 813-229-1100.

What dates are you trying to book for? Are you willing to cab it? We have business on the books for October, but who knows if those too will cancel as it gets closer to their arrival date. People are reluctant to travel and there are bargains to be had!

Thanks again for your quick response. I am so sorry, I failed to inform you that I am coming down for a women's conference in August of 2002.

You would not feel as safe in any other hotels near the Ice Palace. Downtown Tampa at night is not a great place. I stayed at the Wyndham for less than $125 last year just by calling several times. Marriott also has frequent specials. I receive notices as a Marriott Rewards club member. I suggest you join Marriott Rewards and see what they offer! It's definitely the best of the three hotels.
