I died & went to Maui - TravelDiva's Maui Trip Report

Hi all,

My in-depth report along with photos for my 9 day trip to the Valley Isle is now live and available via my website at: http://traveldiva.marsik.org/mauiday1.htm

Let me know of any questions or comments. I'm still suffering from a bad case of the PMD (Post-Maui Depression)...and its snowing here in Chicago as I type this.

Mahalo!

Oh my goodness, TravelDiva - what a terrific trip report! Loved all the photos and your wonderful writing. How can you stay so slim when you eat so much?? Sure was a beautiful spot for your brother's wedding. My favorite photo was the one from the helicopter of the Maul coastline. Beautiful!!!

You guys are making me blush. Much of my free time since we've been back has been spent reliving every wonderful Maui moment in creating the report, so I'm really glad you all liked it!

kopp: LOL...my normal diet is nothing like the eating frenzy displayed during this trip. We went all out on this one. But thanks!

Wow! Wonderful trip report. I loved the food descriptions and photos. It sounds like it was a great trip. We'll be going to the BI in May for my brother-in-law's wedding; I can't wait!

Lucy: Hmm, Honolulu to Chicago...probably a little less relaxing. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that our weather will cooperate. Sounds like you'll be here around late March, so hopefully the sub-freezing temps will be subsiding somewhat by then. Let me know if you need any lodging/dining/entertainment recommendations while in town.

kureiff: BI should be awesome. This was our first trip to Hawaii (technically my first trip was when I was 3) and we're hooked! I think our next trip will have to be combo BI and Kauai. Have a great trip...I'll keep an eye out for your report.

Traveldiva,
Again, great trip writeup. I'm also exhausted. Can't believe you had all your meals planned out and everything. Too bad about the flu. My son got married on a McKenna beach in April, 2001, and we had our after dinner at the same resturant at Wailea golf course. You really missed a great experience at haleakala, but go for sunrise and ride bikes back down-you'd love it. Sorry you had to return to Chicago. My brother and family just moved back to Sacramento from Elmhurst, and I have yet to hear them complaining about how cold it has been here this winter!!

What a wonderful report!! We returned from Maui yesterday. Your report helped me get through the day. I do agree with you about Sansei. We had dinner there three nights out of 9. Great food! Thank you!

Aloha TravelDiva,

Very well done report! I'm 50 miles north of the city in Antioch, IL... at least the sun is shining today! It was nice to venture away with you to Maui for awhile.

Terrific report. We are 80 days away from 15 days on Maui. Your report was just the thing to get me even more pumped for the trip. Great photos as well. Thanks for sharing.
Where, specifically, is the swap meet located in Kahului?

Thank you thank you for all the raves. I may just have to quit my marketing job and go for my dream job of being a travel writer!

biker: I'm so jealous...a whole 15 days in Maui! The swap meet is located on Pu'unene Rd next to the post office and a Shell station. You should have no problems finding it - follow the signs towards the airport. It's open only on Saturdays from 7am-noon. A few things I wished we could've done if we had more time was the bikeride down Haleakala and surfing. Have an awesome trip...let us know how it goes!

Kalunchi: Yeah, Dustin and I threw caution to the wind on this trip. It was a blast! Ahi is actually tuna...the dolphin reference is probably to mahi mahi, but that's dolphin fish, no relation to the big sweet mammals that no one would dare eat. The seafood in Hawaii is unbelievable fresh...it's almost ruined eating fish for me here in Chicago. I see a dinner at Roy's here in the my immediate future.

Mahalo!

travelDiva - What a terrific report - I started reading it yesterday afternoon and had to finish it this morning before I could get any work done! Don't tell my boss Loved your descriptions and pictures. I've been in the dumps a bit because I can't get over to paradise again this year (haven't been since July/August 2003) so your report took me away and put me back in paradise - at least while I was reading it. Thanks for sharing.

TravelDiva, you ARE a travel writer (and such a pretty one, with your handsome hubby!) What a magnificent report...... I don't know when I've enjoyed reading anything so much. You have made me SO homesick for Maui and and my Renaissance Wailea with it's Maui Onion, which will not be the same when I go back again! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your experiences and your photos. This is the closest I've been to Maui without flying from Raleigh!!!

bashfulLV: LOL I hear you...I'm swamped at work but I can't seem to tear myself away from Fodors and all the Hawaii posts. This Maui trip has whet my appetite for more of the island life.

bonniebroad: You are so sweet...yeah, he's a cutie. I'm so glad my report brought you back there. We loved the Maui Onion and the Renaissance's grounds were so pretty. Maybe there's time for one more quick getaway for you before they change over?

Sis: Glad you liked it!! Let's go back!
