How to Avoid Spring break?

As a cruise specialist, I can tell you anytime from March through the end of April is considered "Spring Break" as all the rates are higher. I often suggest May to my clients (avoiding Mother's Day & Memorial Weekend). Rates are a little less and if you're headed south (Florida, Caribbean, etc.) the weather is almost perfect!

There is definitely no one week for spring break! I have found that most COLLEGES have their spring breaks earlier like the second or third week of March. (ours always coinsided with the NCAA basketball tournament so that students could attend as we were a huge basketball school) during this time you'll ge tthe college age kids partying hard compelte with wet t-shirt contests on the beach. If you are thinking about younger kiddies overrunning you because of spring break, I think elementary and high schools tend to have their spring breaks in april. Ours was the same statewide, always the second full week of April, but I do know a lot of schools that call theirs not "spring break" but "easter break" and it of course always coinsides with that holiday.
I agree May (early May that is) is the best time to go and avoid kids. If you wait until late May you are in trouble as many schools in the south let out for summer BEFORE Memorial Day (they go back in august rather than waiting until after Labor Day)

I have 3 kids under the age of 14 and have never heard of a President's Day break, I think that must be a regional thing. We have Easter Break and my oldest daughter who is a freshman in college has spring break the second week of March and it is the same every year for her school.

We are from the Northwest(Washington State) and always have taken our spring break anywhere from the end of march to the middle of april. Now that the Boys are in High School they have a mid winter break in February that is a week over Presidents day week end. We cannot take spring break because of High School soccer or baseball

It really is a regional thing. Some areas in Northeast have a week in Feb (usually President's Day week) and a week in April - in Massachusetts iit is week of third Monday since we have a bogus holiday called Patriot's Day that week. But it could be another week in other states. While traveling, we have found many other parts of the country do a week or 2 mid-March, especially private schools.
If you want to avoid college kids, try February or April. It is harder to avoid school-age kids unless you wait until the end of April.
Easter week is always real tough and more expensive to book air and hotel. If you can stay in more expensive places, there are fewer college kids, but, we have unfortunately found, a higher number of unsupervised kids.

How is Patriots Day isn't bogus:
Listen my children and you shall hear,
of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.
April the 18th in 75, hardly a man is still alive, who remembers that famous day and year.
Go to Boston and see the guy riding a horse through the streets before dawn -- that's not bogus, that's history.

I realize that there is a federal holiday for President's Day. There are not TWO. Used to, a day was taken for Washington's birthday and another day for Lincoln's Birthday. Some states and areas still recognize two holidays but there is only ONE federal holiday as the federal government combined the two days and instead of celebrating 2 separate days for two separate birthdays, set aside one federal holiday to observe BOTH President's Birthdays. An another thing, just because there is afederal holiday and banks, or government offices are closed, schools are not automatically closed. It is up to the state or individual school district depending on how it is structured in your state. In my area, there is one holiday President's Day and the kids are off school but that has been set aside as an "inservice day" for teachers and no there are not two days the kids get off.
The idea of giving both birthdays off to the kids and even turning it into a week long break is a REGIONAL thing.

Wondering May should be ok for WDW. However AVOID going to the park on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We went on a Monday this past May and it was packed. A Disney employee told us a lot of parents are pulling their kids out of school for long weekends to go there. IMO, the best time to visit WDW is in the fall, Oct, first 2 weeks of November and the first 2 weeks of Dec. Avoid the holidays and weekends if possible.
