Hotel Union Square San Francisco
Has anyone stayed at this hotel? I know where it is located, but what about the quality of the rooms and the service? I am staying there for a conference next week and I can't seem to find anyone that has actually stayed there and commented on it. Very few reviews about the hotel on other Web sites and its not mentioned on Fodors--should I have a back-up hotel?

Funny you should ask....
I stayed in this hotel 9/20-9/22 while on vacation. The rooms range in size and are not very well furnished. The hotel appeared to me to be a renovated office building. The beds were not very comfortable and the bathrooms are quite dated if not a little on the dirty side. The staff for the most part was nice enough with the exception of one person. I plan to return to San Francisco however the Fairmont looked like a better bet. There was nothing about Union Square (the hotel) that was appealing.

Last time I stayed in the Union Square area, I noticed the homeless problem everywhere. My wife felt intimidated a bit by it. Some were fairly persistent in asking for money. We've stayed twice at Nob Hill (Mark Hopkins or Huntington) since and it's great.
