Hotel in Williamsburg
We're planning a week in the Williamsburg area with my two sons, ages 5 and 11. Any hotel suggestions? We plan to tour not just historic Williamsburg but hit many of the other area attractions (e.g. Busch Gardens, Jamestown, etc).
Thanks.
Thanks.

The Washington Post travel section has been running an ad for a newly opened Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. It looks like a fun place for kids, with their own water park and arcade and suites to accomodate families, but it also looks like it might be fairly expensive. Apparently there are a few other Great Wolf Lodges throughout the country. I really don't know much else about it, but perhaps others here can give an opinion.
The ad has a promo code WBOOKME to use when booking online. It gets you $50 off per night (Sun - Thurs) any style suite if you book by 7/15/05 and is valid through 9/2/05

If money is not an issue, without a doubt stay at the amazing Williamsburg Inn. Across the street, the Williamsburg Lodge is another option, but it's in the middle of a MAJOR renovation and only one wing (Tazewell) was open in June (with two new wings opening in July). You might be able to get a deal at the Lodge due to the renovations.
Both the Inn & the Lodge are steps from the historic area, the perfect location for your Williamsburg visit.

There are plenty of chain hotels in the area that while nothing special provide reasonable lodging at a reasonable price. I'd imagine that your sons, heck - all of you, will want a pool. Look at the various hotels on Bypass Rd (Rt 60) where you're close to CW, as well as getting to the other attractions you're interested in, and the many restaurants on Richmond Rd on the W side of Wbg. I agree that Williamsburg Inn (and the Lodge too) are very nice, but wouldn't stay there with youngsters who'd probably want to be a little more rambuncious (sp?) than you'd want them to be at high-end places like them. If you do wish to stay at an official CW property, both the Woodlands and Governors Inn are nearby, Woodlands being adjacent to the Visitors Center, G.I. being not very close to anything except the train station.

We are a family of 4 - girls 8 and 11 at the time of the 1st trip. We stayed at Kingsmill Resort. Absolutely loved it. So we decided to go again this year Got a very good deal that included enormous breakfasts, one lunch, tickets to Water Country and Busch Gardens, free golf on the par 3 course and on the 18 hole courses after 2pm, shuttles to the parks. The rooms are great. Sports facilities were great with indoor and outdoor pools, basketball court, raquecball court, Spa, weightroom, game room. Lots of kid activities.

If money is not a concern, I would stay at Kingsmill rather than the Inn. The Inn is way too stuffy for kids. Do look at Great Wolf. It may look like it is a little out of town but it is actually very accessible. Any of the suites hotels may also work well for you. Many have been very happy at the Woodlands.

I stayed at the Williamsburg Inn growing up, from age 2 on, and always loved the experience. When I was 10 my parents allowed me to take a friend and we got a two bedroom suite . . .
Of course it's no Motel 6 -- screaming children probably wouldn't be appreciatd in the lobby.
