I am going to the travel agent today to book my august honeymoon hotels. I narrowed it down to 6 days in maui and 4 days in Kauai. I have the Mariott for Kauai but can't decide on a MAui hotel. Any preferences? I was thinking about the FAirmont or the Hyatt. But are they worth the $ and it sounds like there are lots of families there. Is this true or is it good for a honeymoon? thanks for the help.

I've heard great things about the Ritz Kapalua on Maui. Hopefully someone who has stayed there can give some more insight. Have a great time!

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt last July, and loved it. We stayed for 6 days, and did not see many kids. The hotel was full, so I'm sure there were many there. There is a separate "kiddie pool" area behind the main pool, so I think the families spent their time there. The Hyatt was worth every penny, and I will stay there again the next time we return to Maui. The resort offers many activities, or you could just lounge around all day enjoying the gorgeous grounds.

Many posters here like the Fairmont as well. You need to consider if you want the Wailea or Ka'anapali area, then make your resort choice. We visited Wailea, and preferred Ka'anapali because there seemed to be more choices of restaurants and activies there and in nearby Lahaina. You will hear many different opinions about the two areas. People seem to feel strongly about their favorite!

You probably can't go wrong with either property. If you are going in late August, you probably won't encounter as many families since most will be preparing for school. In early August, you will likely have more families around. I expected to see a lot more kids when we were there last summer. Perhaps they are going to different locations than honeymooners/anniversary couples. I wouldn't worry about that factor in your planning.

You are welcome. Another way you might save on room rates is with the Hyatt's AAA discount. Even if you aren't a member, it's worth it to join just for the savings on a room here alone. They may or may not have rooms left for your dates, but it's worth a try. You can check on hyatt.com.

Another way to save $$ here is on valet parking. Just self park, the lot is very close to the main entrance, and is worth saving valet fees. I think it was around $10 a day, plus tip of course. Plus, we often saw a line of people waiting around for their cars at busy dinner times.

Make sure to go to the Swan Court at least once for breakfast, expensive but worth it. Very relaxing, delicious food and pretty setting. Go early if you can, they fill up and have lines by 9am.

Where are you staying in Kauai? I highly recommend the Hyatt there too if you haven't already made your final plans. It's worth staying there for the pool alone!

Ask your TA about the Sunshine on Sale package for the Hyatt Maui. Depending on the time of year and the number of nights you're staying, it may be possible to get one night free and buffet breakfast free as well.

Be sure and sign up online for the free Hyatt member card. It guarantees an upgrade at checkin if one is available. Also, you can accrue points toward another stay. You ought to stay at the Hyatt instead of the Mariott on Kauai. - Just my opinion...
