Hollywood Accommodation

Hi

Planning to visit from the UK in August for approx 16 nights.

So far planning to do LA-Las Vegas-San Diego-Disney.

Would also like to incorporate a day (night) in Hollywood.

What are the best hotels to stay in this area (not necessarily the most expensive!)?
Would like a hotel where we can walk out to restaurants in the evening.

Also, any advice on Hollywood tours?

Many thanks.
SB

the standard hotel on sunset boulevard. believe me you will get the full l.a experience...it's moderatley priced. i don't think you need tours, just a rental car, or something. it truelly is enough to just take it all in for the hollywood experience. maybe get close to the hollywood sign on durango drive?
the hollywood walk of fame? griffith observatory for the view?

The Standard is in West Hollywood which is a nice area for walking, but if you want Hollywood, try either the Renaissance Hotel, Hollywood Roosevelt or Magic Castle Hotel. There is also a new Comfort Inn on Highland (near the Hollwyood Bowl) or a Holiday Inn which are a bit farther to walk, but not much. Try Starline Tours if you are looking for a tour company. Best thing would be to hire a car and go at your own pace. The Observatory is presently closed for renovations. It may be opened by August, but I am not sure when it reopens for sure.

If you want Hollywood, stay at either the Roosevelt ( very popular with visitors from the UK) or the Renaissance.

The Roosevelt is an architectural landmark and has a great deal of character. Tiles, beams, ghosts of Hollywood past...It is directly across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
It also boasts the Cinegrill Cabaret. Shirley HOrn, Betty Buckley, etc have performed there. Nice room.

The Renaissance is part of the Hollywood/Highland complex. It's a big modern hotel that has received great reviews.

For a more modest Hollywood experience, look into the Magic Hotel. It's on Franklin, right down the hill from the Magic Castle. I think if you stay at the hotel you get a pass to the Castle ( it's a private club for magicians).

All of the above hotels are easy, easy walking distance to the Chinese theatre and the various bus tours of Hollywood. Most of the tours leave from the courtyard at the Chinese. I think they are all pretty good.

Have fun.
