Help me pick the right Hotel in San Francisco

I'm torn between three hotels, I don't mind walking and don't have to be right in the middle of the action so from what I was checking out I think I'm interested in these three hotels, unless someone thinks I could do better. The Mark Hopkins - Nob Hill The Hotel Vitale or The Hotel Drisco, help!!!

Easy for me -- I'd pick the Vitale. That's because I think it's in a great neighborhood, across the street from the bayfront, a couple of blocks from the ferry bldg, near excellent dining, walking distance to everything, including AT&T Park, the Ferry Building, Alcatraz Pier, North Beach, Chinatown, Union Square. I can easily discount the Mark Hopkins because I would never want to stay in a hotel at the very top of a very steep hill with nothing on the surrounding blocks but other hotels and upscale residences. As for the Drisco, it's in a very nice residential neighborhood, but not really near anything other than other residential neighborhoods -- good for strolling, eating and shopping, though. So, in order, I'd pick Vitale - Drisco - Mark Hopkins.

I would pick the Vitale, since I really like the Embarcadero. It has great views, good transportation, is close to the Ferry Building, and has some wonderful restaurants in walking distance. But what I really like is that it is not just an area that is used by tourists, you will find lots of locals enjoying the Embarcadero, especially at lunchtime and when the Giants are in town.

Great minds, huh? Not surprising since we both usually recommend the Embarcadero.

Thanks for the info so hard to pick when you don't know an area and just have to go by reviews it gets so confusing. We like upscale more modern so from what I can see and by what you have suggested the Vitale looks like it might be the one.
