Help, I can't decide!

Hello Everyone,

Myself, my husband, and another couple are planning on visiting CO March 31 ? April 4. I think I have it narrowed down to staying at either Breck, Keystone or Winterpark. My husband is an avid snowboard, but the rest of us are only novice skiers. I?ve looked at all the website I can and I still can?t decide! We would also like to go snow tubing! Doesn?t anyone have any advice on places that have snow tubing? I think that we would like to stay in a town that has more than just resorts, but we would also like a view of the mountains as well??.any advice?

We only ski downhill so I'm not much help on the snowboarding and tubing. Hopefully Coskier will answer as she? is very familiar with Summit County. I would not go to Winter Park-Now I've only been there once, but disliked it so much that we never went back. Our one trip was about 15 years ago and we went without kids - Winterpark seemed to be a real family-oriented place and there was really not a "town" In other words, we didn't find much to do in the evenings. Will you have a car? If so, then Summit County has lots of options. You can stay anywhere in Summit County and ski many resorts, including Vail, which is a quick drive west on I-70. I know there is a snow tubing area at Vail. If you want to stick to one place, I suggest Breckenridge of the three you mentioned. It is a great town and has plenty of ski terrain to keep everyone happy. There are tons of lodging options.

Another thing you might do is re-post your question with Colorado skiing in the title. A lot of people won't check a title this vague and not everyone pulls the Colorado heading.

From your description of must-haves, I recommend Breckenridge as well. Your husband will not like Winter Park for snowboarding. There are a lot of "flats" that will only frustrate him.

Breckenridge has a great downtown with lots of restaurants, shopping and an ice skating rink. You can probably find a tubing hill in the area too... although we've never done this. I'd check out this site for more info on winter activities. http://breckenridge.snow.com/

Try the Cafe Alpine for a nice dinner out. We love that restaurant.

Have you also tried researching on skiing- and snowboarding- specific forum(s) ?

we interrupt this thread for a brief lesson in grammar....

cherrypie, does it sound correct to say, "Myself am planning on visiting CO..."? neither is it correct to say, "Myself, my husband, and another couple are planning......".

carry on........

uuhhhh, I would strongly suggest that you not correct the grammar in other people's posts if you are not willing to use correct grammar in your own posts. It makes you look like a great big moron, instead of just being a jerk for pointing it out. IMHO.

And I would like to second Summit County. I'm not a skier, but Summit is beautiful. I am not a Winterpark fan - a few bad experiences with hotels there. Breck and Keystone are also nice.

Breckenridge is a town, Keystone is a resort. Both are IN the mountains and have great mountain views. Both will have things to do for skiers (boarders) and nonskiers alike. I know Keystone has tubing. I think Breck does. Both have iceskating, shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. You can't go wrong with either choice. They are also only 20 minutes apart. So choose one and plan to ski both.

The tougher choice is going to be deciding where to stay. I would choose a condo for maximum value and comfort. You can go through the resorts directly, use www.vrbo.com or some of the other rental websites. If you choose a place and post here we can tell you how the particular condo is situated within the town/resort.

Punctuation? Capitalization? Where shall I begin? Not to mention the excessive use of "......". As you say, carry on.

I'm being perfectly nice. I just think people shouldn't be hypocrites, and I'm willing to stand up for that. The proverbial pot calling the kettle black, you know.

beckers,
"gram?mar; 1 a : the study of the classes of words, their inflections, and their functions and relations in the sentence b : a study of what is to be preferred and what avoided in inflection and syntax" though i disagree that i've incorrectly punctuated my posts, are the words "punctuation" and "capitalization" anywhere in the definition of grammar?

you might think me a jerk for trying to gently correct cherrypie, but if not i, who?

Your dictionary definition is nice and all, but think about it - when you are using language, any language, in the written form, punctuation and capitalization are as much a part of grammar as is word placement. You are not the king of the English language, and this is certainly not a grammar class. Why do you feel the inherent need to jump into a post where you have nothing to contribute just to point out the shortcomings of others? Are you trying to compensate for something? Are you trying to prove you are better than the rest of us? I'll just say what I tell little children - if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I'm done with this conversation, and I'm done with you. Have the last word if it makes you feel better, but just know the rest of us think you are a jerk for starting this whole thing. Fodors would be a better place without people like you who have no further goal than to insult others.

Cherrypie, I apologize to you on behalf of uuhhhh for his jerky comments. Ignore him, the rest of us live in the real world and know that it doesn't matter.
