Help finding relocation spot

Moving from Spokane, WA. We are homeschoolers and also have a daughter in public highschool that is Autistic. Want to move to warm climate if possible, esp. near a military base that has commissary and bx, px, etc. and near a good size VA Hosp with cheap enough housing because we need a 4 bed. We are retired. Any places that might fit us? My mom's in Florida and Washington(by Oregon is too far away).

This only gets you a bit closer to FL, but what about San Antonio? Lots of bases...so many I'm not even quite sure, and recently anyway, it seems to change weekly with BRAC, VA hospital, and housing prices here cannot be beat. Go to realtor.com and plug in San Antonio and your price parameters to see what you can get for your dollar.

I just worry about you coming from your climate to this one, and would strongly advise making a trip in the summer before even considering it!

I am in Virginia Beach, VA. Lots of bases here with commissaries and the such. Also Portsmouth Naval Hospital is here and has a great facility for any kind of medical cares. Climate is warm but does get some snow.

I live near Dayton, Ohio, and the whole time I was reading your message, I was thinking about how the Dayton area would fit your needs quite well. I don't know how much you know about Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, but it is a very big air force base that is in the Dayton/Xenia area, and they employ civillians as well as millitary personell. The climate here is very comfortable, we get some snow, but it is nothing that we can't stand, and many of the high schools here have multiple handicap units that I'm sure would take care of your daughter. The only setback would be the fact that we are roughly 1200 miles away from Florida, and 486 miles away from Washington DC. It's your decision, but I think that Ohio would suit you well.

Good Luck

lisalaw24,
A bit of trivia:
The last person I knew in the mid 70's still on active duty was just selected for O-8 after many years as an O-7 and CO at Portsmouth NH.
His name years ago was "Battleship" Tom Burkhardt.
