Help!
I want to go to Chicago in August to Six Flags but have no clue as to what type of other things to do there. Hopefully it will be a group of us. Please make any suggestion. We're leaving Detroit thursday night and coming back home on Saturday night. Any suggestion is appreciated. Age range: 20-25. Thought I would give you that info for some help.

Hopefully you're planning on going to the park on Friday. Saturday and Sunday, especially when school is out, makes for a very busy park! Six Flags is in Gurnee, IL-about 45 minutes north of Chicago. There isn't much else up there except Gurnee Mills, a typical outlet mall (there's more shopping a little to the morth in Kenosha). You'll also be close to Lake Michigan although its too cold to swim in, even in August.
You might consider going to the park on Friday and then heading to downtown Chicago where there's a billion things to do-bars, restaurants, museums etc. The hotels will most likely be more expensive however. They also probably jack up the rates at the hotels near Gurnee in the summer. You may try hotels in nearby cities along 94/294 between Deerfield and Gurnee for better rates.
I used to live up that way so email me if you have any questions.

Deborah,
You might want to go this website for ideas of what to do in Chicago. It has link to click onto for many Chicago attractions like the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Sears Tower, Six Flags, etc.

Great America has a ticketing option called, I think, Twickets, which lets you return to the park a second consecutive day for only $5. Of course, the attraction of this depends on whether or not you get your fill of the park on the first day!
Being a suburbanite with two young kids I have limited experience with the Chicago night life, but Saturday night definitely should be spent downtown. Two stops I can recommend are a club called Drink and the Blue Man Group performance. Check out their web site -- they have a 10 pm show which fits very nicely between dinner and late-night clubbing. Have fun!
(One last thought is to check out which festival, if any, is at Grant Park that weekend.)

If you like blues music, Chicago has some great blues bars with live bands. Be sure to go to one. There are also many neighborhood festivals going on throughout the summer. Check the Friday newspapers when you get here. There's a weekend section that lists all the festivals. They're alot of fun. Most usually have food tents setup so you can sample some of the great foods served by local restaurants. There are cruises on Lake Michigan you can take. From lunch cruises to midnite dinner cruises. Some can be $$ but they're nice. Try an outdoor concert at Ravinia. That's always a nice time. If you feel like driving away from the city, you can go up to the Chain of Lakes area, rent a boat and spend the day boating on the Fox River or through the many connected lakes northwest of Chicago. Or you can got to a White Sox or Cubs baseball game. You may like a Cubs game better. The ballpark is nicer. Kindof the old time baseball park feeling. There's also alot of bars around the Cubs ballpark that you can drop in on and catch that baseball fever.
