Heading to Philly

Heading to Philly soon and we are staying at the Club Quarters at Chestnut/16th Street.
Hardly anyone lists this hotel when mentioning places to stay. Is it in a good local and convenient to local eateries and pubs? I have a map but it's still hard to get a grasp on the area. Also, thinking of going to Longwood Gardens, Eastern State Penn.....any other ideas? Oh, and what to expect from the weather in April?

Weather if Phila. in April...Let's see...today it was 65 and sunny. Two days from now they're predicting rain and a high of 50. There are restaurants all over the city. For a guide to all restaurants, hotels, sights to see, etc., go to www.gophila.com

You are staying in a great location. I don't know anything about the hotel, but I almost booked it for friends. (They stayed with family.)
You are walking distance to many restaurants and pubs, shopping areas, Rittenhouse Square, etc.
To see Old City and the historic area, you can just hop a bus on Market St., one block away. We have a new Constitution Center that everyone loves - they stay hours!
Make sure to see our new Kimmel Center for the Arts, on Broad St. - a short walk.
For Longwood Gardens you will need a car. It's a long drive from center city.
April is changeable, but right now it's beautiful.
Check www.chowhound.com and go to the Pennsylvania Message Board for interesting comments on the restaurants and pubs.
Enjoy our great city!

Don't forget to visit te great Art Museum in Philadelphia. I also would recommend a bus tour. Both Big Bus and the Philaelphia Trolley tours are excelent.

16th & Chestnut is a more commercial area, but still centrally located and Philadelphia is one of the best walking towns in the U.S. so it's easy to find restaurants and cafes nearby. Numerous restaurants are clustered around the Rittenhouse Square area, for example.
The Rosenbach Library is one of the gems of Philadelphia that is often overlooked by tourists. You can check www.rosenbach.org to see if it might interest you.

Hi riddlekitty-

Club Quarters is at a great location. A friend of mine has stayed there before and said it's fine. Rooms are tiny though.
Longwood Gardens is beautiful in April with Tulips bloom. I went there in April in 2002 & 2003. Check their website to make sure it's blooming. Hope the weather is nice when you go. Yes, you'll need a car to get there.

Pubs near Club Quarters: Black Sheep (my favorite) on 17th St between Locust & Spruce St. Or you can try Bards on Walnut St between 20th & 21st streets.

Great local place to eat is Monk's Cafe on 16th street between Locust & Spruce Sts. Serves Belgian beers & mussels w/frites. Go there early or you'll have to wait a long time.
