Hawaii islands help
I will be going to Hawaii the end of july to
mid august, just have a few questions about some of the islands. On Maui is the bike ride
on Haleakala worth the trip? How long of a ride is it? Also the road to Hana how long of a drive is it from Kaanapali Beach? Any luau suggestions?
On Kauai the ride from Poipu to Princeville is it worth it? On the Big Island how long of a drive is it from Waikola to Volcano Nat'l park? Has anyone taken route 200.
In general for any of those islands do you have any recommendations of a helicopter tour and a fishing trip.
Any other suggestions for must see or do and any restaurant recommendations.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

My husband and I have been to Maui 3 times. The road to Hana trip is a must and from Kaanapali plan 4-4 1/2 hours, and that's not planning a lot of time stopping along the way to explore the waterfalls, beaches, etc. Expect a caravan of cars along the way which can slow you down. We should have planned nothing else on the day we took the Hana tour, but had reservations for 6:00 at The Old Lahaina Luau and had to be back. This is absolutely without a doubt the best luau on Maui or any other island. It's worth the $70+ per person and you will not be disappointed. Be sure to take a video camera or take lots of pictures...it's a spectacular production (like a Broadway show quality) of the history of Hawaii and the food is also excellent. We thoroughly enjoy walking the streets of Lahaina, shopping and dining at Moose Maguillacuddy's on Front Street. Be sure to sit along the seawall and watch the sunset....awesome.
If you rent a condo, be sure it has a/c in July/August. Whaler's Village on Kaanapali Beach has great beachside restaurants and shopping.

When I've gone to Maui, I split my time between staying in Kaanapali/Lahaina and in Kula. In Kaanapali/Lahaina, I "play tourist." On the Kula side, you're closer to Haleakala and do not have to wake up at 2 or 3 AM just to get there for sunrise! Then you can hike, or wander around Paia and Makawao.

We did the Haleakala bike ride two years ago with Aloha Bike tours. VERY VERY CLASSY. He advertizes only on the internet. He uses Trek bikes and finishes the tour at the winery for lunch. He does not go to the top for the sunrise, he said it was usually rainy. He said it was not worth our time as it was raining at the top the day we went. The top is beautiful on a clear day. VERY WELL WORTH THE $$$.
