Vegas Hotel Experts

Headed to Vegas this weekend with a Saturday, November 1st, check in date. Bellagio has no availability. Venetian rates are $289 and I have not been successful on priceline in getting anything 5 star. Ok, now for the question....if I am not successful with priceline for a great rate at a 4 star hotel which of these hotels do you think? It's 2 women going, 50ish, want to be on the strip, but can walk to places and will.

Flamingo - $78.33/night
Bally's - $92/night
TI - $109/night
MGM (Grand Tower) - $112.65/night
Mirage - $132

Thanks for the in put!

I have stayed at all of those you mention except for MGM. I'd take Mirage in a minute over any of the others. Our room at the Mirage was really wonderful. We had booked a standard and I actually went downstairs later and asked if we had been upgraded -- couldn't believe that room was a "standard", but we were told that is what it was.

Bally's was sort of dumpy to be honest, and Flamingo was a close second. Treasure Island was fine -- but when we were there really filled with lots of kids.

Must agree with Patrick, Mirage hands down. If possible look into the Aladdin. We stayed there last week and it was very nice, with a great location. On your list my second choice would have to be MGM.

TI is right across from the Venetian and the rooms have been nicely redone. Flamingo is fine if you wanna save a few bucks, the location is central and outweighs the ordinariness of the rooms.

You picked a good weekend to go, the rates are about 25% lower than average.

I have friends staying in LV this weekend also, I was able to book a Mirange rate of $122/nt through the website yesterday. Mirage & TI would be the first choices but the MGM is also very nice. I think the new ship attraction has started at the TI. The location of the first two is best. Have fun.

I agree with the Mirage given the list you provided. Do look into the Paris if you haven't already. I would take that over all the others.

Probably gonna go with the Mirage or TI. Got a gambling buddy coming by this afternoon to try and use his clout.
At either of these hotels, Mirage or TI, which type of room should we request. Any chance at the Mirage, we could get a room to see the Bellagio fountains or are we just too far away??

Spent a long weekend at the Flamingo last November and it was great - extremely well situated for access to everything on the strip - casinos, shopping, tram, etc.

iceeu2,

Too far away.

Try the Aladdin (great) or Paris. Both are right across the street from the Bellagio.

Mirage is, hands down, the best of all the properties you mention. As Curious pointed out, you are too far away to see the Bellagio fountains but you could still get a very nice room facing their newly rennovated pool area.

TI doesn't hold a candle to the mirage--IMHO.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but i actually like staying at Bally's. You can't beat the location, and it connects to Paris via a covered walkway with shops and cafes etc. Right across the street from Bellagio. If you decide on Bally's, request a room in the North Tower, high up. They are the newer rooms (recently renovated), and quieter than the ones on the lower levels (street noise).

I have read many messages that said since Wynn no longer owns the Mirage, it's really going downhill. People also cite very small rooms and bathrooms.

That's partially true, gotribe.
Wynn sold out to MGM's Kerkorian a few years ago, and GM has taken Mirage in a different direction.
Wynn built Mirage as THE ultimate luxury hotel in LV. Mirage is still the same hotel. But times change and better hotels have passed it by.
Now Mirage is not marketed so much to high end gamblers as to families and mid-range folk.
The bathrooms are small---by today's standards. But when they were built they were state of the art, if you will.

Time passes very quickly in LV.
A 12 year old hotel might as well be 25 years old in many respects.

We stayed at the Flamingo a couple of months ago. It was a perfectly fine property--room was HUGE, and dead center on the strip. You can get a room high enough to see the Bellagio fountains (right across the street), if you ask/insist. You just can't beat the location. Also, the pool is one of the best on the strip.

Just a note on TI... The new pirate show opened last weekend and they've really been changing their image from kid friendly to adult playground. There probably won't be too many kids around.
I've heard the rooms are nice, the casino is reasonably big, but the buffet leaves room for improvement. The Mirage buffet is much better, but right next door if you stay at the TI. Either place, you can't go wrong.

My husband and I were just in Vegas Oct 10-12 and we stayed at Bally's. The location was superb! We could walk to all the hotels on the strip. We are also early 50's and hubby is in a wheelchair. The room was fine. Clean and spacious. We were in the South Tower and our view was fantastic. We looked out onto the Eiffel Tower and the Bellagio Fountains. It was a holiday weekend and we paid $119.00 per night which was an American Express special I found only through calling the hotel directly. If you are not into super-luxury, I definitely think the $92.00 price is a great deal for you. The biggest problem we found was the casino (and adjacent check-in)was very smoky. We did not spend much time at Bally's casino.

Just a note if you're interrested in the Venetian, I noticed someone got it for $130/nt this weekend. Saw this on the biddingfortravel website.

Hi travelinwifey,
I saw that post on bft.com about the Venetian. I had bid up to $115 last night, so couldn't bid again until Thursday night..I'm happy, we ended up booking at the Mirage. The rates at the Mirage this morning for our dates was $132/night and this afternoon they had dropped to $109/night.

Thanks everyone for all of your help.

Now, tell me which restaurants NOT to miss and which ones to definitely miss.
If only 1 show...should it be Mamma Mia, O or Mystere?

In my opinion, the buffet at The Bellagio is NOT to be missed.
