Glacier National Park 2018

Have reservations for 2 dates in 2018. Hope to get a Granite Chalet spot this year, but certainly not overly optimistic about that happening. My main concern is fire damage this season. I like Many Glacier area the best. It seems most of the fire was near Lake McDonald. Any comments on this?

You are correct. Type in inciweb.nwcg.gov, then click on Sprague fire and you will see where the large fire is.

We were in Glacier August 25-28th and although the east side of the park was smoky, there was no fire damage in that area that we could see. All of our hikes were on the east side with the exception of hiking the Highline Trail from Logan Pass to the Grinnell Glacier Overlook and back and saw no smoke damage at that time. I believe all/most of the fire damage was on the west side. Pray for lots of snow so these fires can be extinguished.

Good luck with Granite Park Chalet reservations! We've hiked there in years past but have never stayed overnight.

I hope you get a spot at the Chalet. My husband and I stayed there a few years ago, and it was wonderful.

We ended up going in and out on the Swiftcurrent Trail as the Highline Trail was closed. We had hoped to go in on the Highline Trail and out on Swiftcurrent.

I ended up with 1 date there. July 12 thru 16th.
Hope to do Hughline and exit on Swift Current in the 14th and 15th. I have been once before. This will be my daughters first time. We will be at Swift Current Motor Inn. Even if we don't get a night at the Granite there is plenty to do. I've hikes Hidden Lake and Iceberg Lake. Took pretty much all the boat rides with this exception of Lake McDonald
