Giants baseball

Should we buy tickets in advance for a midweek game? Please give your tips about getting to the stadium from Fisherman's Wharf and the best food! Thanks

I'd recommend always buying tickets to PacBell in advance. I'm not that familiar with getting there from Fisherman's Warf but I'm sure you can get pretty close on the Muni trolley that goes down Embarcadero and then heads near Market St and then switch to a bus. I did it last year, it was a little hectic because the bus route had changed because of the game and there was a near mutiny on board the bus. You won't have a problem figuring it out, just follow the crowd.

As far as food goes, the stadium signature is the Gilroy garlic fries, you have to try them it's worth the wait in line.

We walked one way Fisherman's Wharf to PacBell - it was a rather long walk, but even with kids it was OK - right along the Bay. The other way we took a direct bus that was well marked (sorry, don't remember number)

Take the Muni from the Embarcadero station. Normally it would be the N Judah line which also goes to the Cal Train station, but they will most likely have special trains for the game. Lots of people to ask, very simple. So simple I forget exactly what we did do, but we got there easily. Follow the herd. There's a nice restaurant just next door to the park, but there's such good "ball park" food in the park I wouldn't bother.

Stan,

You need to buy tickets in advance for all games, since they almost always sell out. As far as food at the game, it's pretty crummy, even for ballpark fare. Try the garlic fries, and a Polish sausage or Kosher dog. The stadium dogs are awful. You can hop on a trolley/bus or walk from Fisherman's Wharf. It's a really pretty walk, but can take 20 minutes or so.

Here's a link to the Giants site with directions and a number to call for more information:

Have fun!

Krispy Kreme doughnuts, California wines, Chicago Viena hot dogs, pizza, burgers and the famous Gilroy garlic fries. I think the Giant's food is as good or better than most stadiums. Of course, the food is better upstairs on the club level.

The food's not *that* much better on the club level. The food in SF is so great, you shouldn't waste even one meal at the ballpark -- bring your own!

No hot dog at the game. No matter how bad the food is, that is just Un-american.

Do buy tickets ahead of time. Why run the risk of not getting in. However, if you just want to watch a few innings, there is a section just behind the right field wall where you can watch a few innings of the game for free. It's under the "Old Navy Splash Landfing" sign.

Went to a game a week and a half ago on a Sunday. Lots of scalpers in the area with tickets to sell. I would imagine a weekday game would be easier to buy tickets.

Go to the Giants website at sfgiants.com, and all the information you need is there; directions, tickets, schedule, etc.

It was my first trip to PacBell after years and years at Candlestick. It is a FANTASTIC ball park. We were sitting up very high along the First Base side. There is so much to see (the bay, Oakland, all of the boats, etc., you almost forget about the game at times.

The atmosphere in the area reminded me very much of Wrigley Field in Chicago (which I dearly love). The Giants did it right!!

Have a Polish.....they are still darn good.

From Fisherman's try bus 10 - it may take you all the way to Ballpark, check the MUNI SF web. Or historic trolley line F and then a short walk. Or bus 47 - almost like line F.

Got tickets from someone selling out front day of the home opener. Not that hard to get. Tickets were purchased for face value as sellers had some of their party not show up and they were screening fans so they could sit by someone who "looked" reasonable.
