RAVE: My oldest son just called to say that he was notified today that he will be graduating Summa Cum Laude! I am beaming right now :D

mikemo Feb 25th, 2005 02:37 PM

Final Rant: Just received the statement for updating my powers of attorney to conform to the Fed's HIPPA requirements. $375. so my docs could share my med info with my three children who have the powers and will have to make decisions.

Lee Ann, I'm guessing that you home-school your children. I recently came across a terrific resource called "Homeschooling Companion"
www.homeschoolingcompanion.com

ElendilPickle Feb 25th, 2005 02:45 PM

Thanks for the link, Seetheworld, and congratulations to your son - that's certainly rave-worthy!

Rave:
Thanks everyone for the best wishes. Still facing some uncertainty but having the worst case scenario, and several of the probable causes ruled out is a positive, for me.

Political ideology aside, it is too bad we can't figure out a way to make our healthcare system more inclusive in a way that makes economic sense. If I didn't have the ability to see a physician every year for a complete physical, my problem may not have surfaced until the permanent damage was already done.

Rant: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE leave your company loyalty at the door when it comes to your retirement plans. I've spent all week looking at a situation where it seems that most of what people thought was "their" pension plan - really isn't. They put loyalty ahead of their own best interest - a bad spot to be in when your company files bankruptcy. If you have a 401k loaded mostly with your company's stock or are in a non-qualified plan - you really ought to think about the downside.

Gardyloo Feb 25th, 2005 06:12 PM

Rant: We will be flying, over the next 10 months, roughly 90,000 "butt-in-seat" miles. I am looking for two pair of decent, not break-the-bank, noise-canceling headphones.

These are only sold, evidently, (a) on-line, where you never get to hear them before shelling out your dough, or (b) in impregnable plastic molded packages, hung on racks at "big box" electronics or office stores, staffed by goobers who know, er, bupkis about nada. "Oh, you can return them if you don't like them." Okay, then what, repeat the process indefinitely?

So far I've decided the 21st Century needs work.

moneygirl Feb 25th, 2005 07:22 PM

Rant: Michael Jackson Anything!

Rave: My three year old son picked flowers for me today and brought them in the door when he came home from preschool!

Rant: The News Media!

MIkemo: A simple advance directive to your physician and the medical records department of your hospital should take care of HIPAA regulations in that situation, wouldn't it?

Kimamom: La Playa is one of my favorites! Enjoy!

aloha Feb 25th, 2005 07:24 PM

Gardyloo, "the 21st century needs work"---I agree!

Rave: tomorrow I am going to the "Chocolate and Wine Trail" event in Herrman Mo. Seven wineries will have tastings of chocolate desserts paired with wines. Looking forward to tasting Eiswein (ice wine).

ronkala Feb 25th, 2005 07:37 PM

RANT:
Three (3) more of our brave troops killed in Iraq today. That brings the total death toll to one thousand four hundred and ninety (1490)!! I would have capitalized the total, but I would have been told I'm shouting. Maybe shouting is what we need for people to wake up.

Scarlett Feb 25th, 2005 07:39 PM

I wish we were in Oregon this weekend for their wine festival in Newport!

ed Feb 25th, 2005 07:41 PM

RAVE: Had a great trip to Thailand.

Rave: Great weather in SoCal and, we missed the rain storms.

Rant: Still jet lagged. :-B

jor Feb 25th, 2005 08:27 PM

Ryan, I agree with you 100%. I worked for a Fortune 500 company and looking back I would not trust them with a dime. I got out before they "outsourced" most everyone who wasn't on the board.

MelissaHI Feb 25th, 2005 09:33 PM

lcuy, just one word: ATA.
You know how I know? I've been shopping because

Rave: I finished my first full week at my new job this week and

Rave: My boss is sending me to Arizona for a week! ATA has the best fares so far. Southwest could be better if they could do multiple cities on their website. Try check um, lcuy!

Anyone going to be in Honolulu this weekend? Come to Aloha Tower Marketplace! There's a historic ship visiting on its journey around the world. check out www.naovictoria.com.

Fodorite018 Feb 26th, 2005 07:02 AM

Well Scarlett, that is a perfect opportunity to plan a trip for next year:)

rapunzll Feb 26th, 2005 08:34 AM

Rant: Ward Churchill- anything he says!

Rave: having fun planning my trip in April and I have this weekend off. I normally work 7 days a week! :-)

jor Feb 26th, 2005 09:14 AM

rapunzll, I heard about some things he said but don't remember exactly what it was. There is a man who is a professor at the U of Colorado who was recently exposed for selling art work which he claimed was his own work but were really copies of art from another artist from about ten years earlier. What a creep.
