OSB. In my family of ladies who have babies very young, my mom, grandmother and great grandmother were all alive til I was 10..mom is still alive :)
So there were all sorts of variations of grandma going on as well as the pet names that we children picked out ourselves for them. You might start out as Grandma Belle but one day that baby might name you something altogether different ((L))

OSB, my childrens' two grandmothers both have exactly the same first and middle name, and since we didn't want them to be Grandma Last Name, we/they had to come up with different grandmother titles for themselves. Actually, the oldest grandchild on my wife's side fixed that. From very early on, she began calling her grandmother "Maw Roy" (Roy was really the grandpa's first name), so for some unknown reason they became Maw Roy and Grandpa. Kids do the strangest things sometimes - but those same things can become so special! :)

Same here. You can pick a name beforehand, but you are probably going to be named something else (hopefully delightful) by the child itself!

Hi OSB, your comments and others reminds me of something. My father was a lover of trains and had lots of models trains plus tons of mechanical drawings of trains that he did from the time he was a young lad in Australia until he died.

My grandson who of course called my husband (his grandfather) Grandpa came up with the sweetest name for my father (his greatgrandfather). To this day he refers to him as Grandpa ChooChoo! This grandson is 20 years old but he will never forget or ever stop missing his Grandpa ChooChoo.

I've been called different names by different grandchildren. My son's kids say they are going to call me Nana now. I don't care, but I do think it reminds them of the real Nana (Great-Grandma) who is gone. Their other Grandmother lives on a farm next door, so when I show up- it's always YOUR Grandma (to the 15 other cousins who do NOT share me as a grandmother and are always somewhere in the picture.)

But my two boys from my DD& SIL, who I see much more, are really funny. They have called me different names over the years and their other grandmother, as well. She is a 75 year old dynamo who was a head orthopedic nurse, is a published author, and has her own oils' shows in downtown Chicago (and she did this while also having 6 kids and 3 marriages. My DD is the baby by many years. Her children are EXTREMELY self-efficient world travelers- they had to be- no one was ever home. LOL!)

We both drive constantly and are everywhere (she's going to Western IL.U. and Iowa all the time)-so they call me Grandma Gold Car and her Grandma Blue Car right now. They are 3 and 6.
