Hi STW, some friends in Italy marinate rock fruit in vodka..it is good!!

And dear Faina, I am sorry. My sweet daughter told me something that she had read about a month ago. The saying was "A Mother is only as happy as her saddest child". That is so true. But do know that while your heart breaks for your son that a better future is there for him Faina.

And "HI" mcheryl, a pedicure sounds great!!

I do hope that all of you that are dealing with the horrible heat will find some relief. We are having about mid 70's, what a blessing.

The Fodor's editors must be back on duty. I see that both the "driving" thread and the Neo thread seem to have been pulled.

Not my first FFRR, but one of the very few, so here goes:

Rant: totally crappy Friday. Started at 7am with being stung by a bee. Ugh.

Rant: after a lunch meeting, several people were gathered outside the building. Someone had parked me in, and I approached the gathered people twice, saying I was parked in by a large Grey Impala. No response. Went to the neighboring restaurant and to two different secretaries in the building. No luck. Back to the gathered crowd. No luck.

Then, as I was leaning against my car in total frustration, one of the people that was gathered outside the entire time casually strolled up to the Grey Impala. Ugh Ugh Ugh

Rant: a lady I have mentored for at least 4 years, and given countless hours, ears, help and encouragement got snappy with me. Ugh

Rant: A couple I am friedly with attempted to get me involved in their marital quarrel! I am UGHED OUT!

Rave: lovely weather in W. Pennsylvania. No horrible heat.

Rave: DH is deep in a DIY remodeling project.

Rant: DH is deep in a DIY remodeling project.

Rant: My 86 yr old father is having trouble walking. First an MRI, then who knows?

Rant: Father is a very very bad patient.

Rave: Cuddled up with the puppy and DH and the laptop.

PamSF: I only have one child, DD, and she is serious about no children. I want grandkids!

Rant: Faux grandchildren are spending the summer in Puerto Rico.

OK, I think I'm done complaining now.

Rave: How Many Fodorites Thread

escargot Aug 4th, 2006 08:31 PM

Rave: But mother is thrilled for this experience for him....

Rave: Family reunion at our house on Sunday so all can see son off ! Daughter arriving from NYC tomorrow so we'll have her also for a few nights!

Rant: Then both kids leave.....

Rave: My back seems to be healed...

Rant/Rave: But the follow up MRI tomorrow morning will confirm success ! Keeping my fingers crossed (oh, sorry to mention fingers jorr)

Rave: Seetheworld : you are just too sweet to have even remembered my back problem and inquiring about it...thank you for your support in many ways! And keep eating those figs.

Rave: OWJ......:) only good thoughts flying your way!

Rave: Life, family, friends, fodorites!

CAPH52 Aug 4th, 2006 08:41 PM

Good luck with that MRI, escargot! And good luck to your son! What a wonderful opportunity for him. I understand how you feel, though. Being a mother is such a joy. And so hard sometimes! :)

Rave: 10yo starts fall baseball this weekend.

gomiki Aug 5th, 2006 05:45 PM

OK...What are goatheads????

FainaSF Aug 7th, 2006 11:26 AM

Another new person here, only I won't stay for long. "Survivor" told me about this website.

Hello, Everyone!

Kal Aug 7th, 2006 11:35 AM

I think they are those little rock hard stickers that you don't want to step on barefooted or drive over with skinny bike tires.

Look like tiny goat skulls.....taste like chicken.

CAPH52 Aug 7th, 2006 11:41 AM

Again, FainaSF? Why this time?

starrsville Aug 7th, 2006 11:49 AM

You have GOT to be kidding!?!?!?!

Welcome, FainaSF!

OldSouthernBelle Aug 7th, 2006 11:50 AM

Kal: Don't you mean chicken PAWS?!lol!

Welcome FainaSF!! Why the hit and run??

We had a good weekend with family. Dad and Stepmom's 50th celebration. Kinda like a family reunion. Saw a precious 4 day old cutie cousin who I got to hold and rock. Took pics of my preggers DIL and another Preggers cousin...I'm SO ready for grand-ma-dom!!

Just can't decide on what to be 'called' my mom is 'Granny' and my DH's mom is 'Mimi'. I'm not interested in 'Nana', so guess that just leaves 'Grandma'???

FainaAgain Aug 7th, 2006 11:51 AM

Nothing to worry about, just thinking of the future, who knows what it brings ;)

kureiff Aug 7th, 2006 11:52 AM

OSB: My MIL like Oma which I believe is German for grandma.

ElendilPickle Aug 7th, 2006 01:20 PM

Gomiki, goatheads are also known as puncture vine. They are small round balls with a bunch of really sharp spikes sticking out of them, and they are really painful.

And I just pulled out a bunch more this morning! Ack!

Lee Ann

escargot Aug 7th, 2006 05:40 PM

Southern Belel: In our neighborhood we have an OMA and a VOVO (Portuguese I think) and a sithoo (lebanese) - so maybe something somewhere like those in your family history/culled from your nationality/religion/etc?

My kids had a Nana and a Grammy.
My daughters best friend has a "little grammy" and "big grammy" -....because of their height thank God ! One is 5' and the other 5' 10" ....:)

Or, grandmother, grandmom....check out his web page for fun http://tinyurl.com/rzqwm and this one
http://tinyurl.com/69daq and

have fun choosing your name !

LoveItaly Aug 7th, 2006 05:45 PM

Hi OSB, go by the name "Grandma". Nothing is sweetier than having your grandchildren call you that, especially when they are all grown up!
