Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 7-8

Rant: People who force their views on others with violence.

Rave: The people responsible for it will be exposed.

ahhnold Jul 8th, 2005 04:26 AM

Rant: No doubt this thread gets political today, so I will say this:

Diplomacy will not work with people who resolve to violence like that. We need to unite to defeat these barbarians and promote peace.

ronkala Jul 8th, 2005 04:38 AM

Rave
Tony Blair for immediately going to London following the disaster.

seetheworld Jul 8th, 2005 04:38 AM

Rant: Terrorism

Rant: Divorce

Grateful: That my BIL did not take his regularly scheduled train into London yesterday.

P_M Jul 8th, 2005 04:44 AM

Rant: The news. I was conducting an audit in the oilfields yesterday so I was away from the internet. I really wanted to check the board to make sure our Fodorites in London were OK, and to wish all Londoners well.

Rave: I checked this morning and most of our Fodor friends have posted. My thoughts and prayers are will all who were affected.

bonniebroad Jul 8th, 2005 04:47 AM

RANT: The tragedy in London ... It certainly intrudes on that warm, fuzzy, summer feeling we like to zone into this time of year. :-( My heart goes out to our neighbors over there.

RAVE: Tony Blair

RAVE: As John Denver sang, "Ain't it good to be back home again?" I love to go on vacation, and then I LOVE to be back in my own bed! :-)

RANT: The hurricanes have begun! And it's so early ...

RAVE: Looking out my windows at my gardenias, hydrangeas, impatiens, crepe myrtles, day lilies, huge ferns, late azaleas, clematis, geraniums ... I do love my flowers this time of year!

Have a wonderful weekend, fellow Fodorites!

Rant: Terrorism

Tony Blair said the purpose of terrorism is to put despair and anger in our hearts. I think I would add fear to that.

Rave: All who overcome despair, anger and fear.

Ryan Jul 8th, 2005 05:11 AM

There is a piece in the Times of London today titled "And this is why they did it." It is a worthwile read for anyone trying to understand why someone could do something like yesterday and 9/11.(
The Times online doesn't require registration) It isn't politically slanted but merely the cold hard facts.

Rave: Pat Fitzgerald. I'm biased because I know Pat, but he represents everything that is right about our country.

LoriNY Jul 8th, 2005 05:14 AM

Rave: The people of London. You are incredible souls and my thoughts go out to you.

Rant: those who think they can bring us to our knees.

Rant: The weather - will it ever stop raining? Those poor people living in the Gulf Coast - will they ever get a break?

Rave: John Mellencamp and John Fogerty tonite at Jones Beach

Rant: Rain or shine ugh

Rant: Hubby is stuck in Dallas right now, I'm just hoping he gets home in time for the show.

Have a safe, happy weekend!

OneWanderingJew Jul 8th, 2005 05:22 AM

Rant: Killers. Terrorists. Jihads.

Rant: Hurricanes

Raves: Despite adversity, the human spirit prevails...people care about one another...people pull together...

Wishing our London friends and everyone else a safe and healthy weekend.

(Let's not get this thread pulled today, folks. It's times like that we especially need to avoid name calling.)

RnRforever Jul 8th, 2005 05:30 AM

Rant: monsters who bomb trains ans buses

Rave: The brave souls in London who will now work hard to go ahead with their lives.

Fodorite018 Jul 8th, 2005 06:01 AM

Rant--The incidents in London. Very sad.

Rave--Finally got the trampoline and got it all put together. Hopefully this won't turn into a rant, lol!

Rave--Beautiful hike last weekend, and spent a couple hours at Cannon Beach.

Rant/Rave--Promotion/relocation being talked about to DH.

otto Jul 8th, 2005 06:04 AM

rant: those rats in london. shameful.

rave: people everywhere, regardless of country or creed get whats coming to them. this means for the good, and for the violent extremeists...the bad too.

rant: in addition, a navy seal that graduated high school with me from my hometown has been killed in afghanistan. he was due to be married this fall.

rave: tony blair (and other classicly reserved, and courageous londoners) seems a real class act.

rave: the power and resources that we do in fact have to help with debt relief, and the environment. and that 8 stately world leaders came together to facilitate progress.

Tiff Jul 8th, 2005 06:14 AM

Rant ~ Hatred, in any shape or form.

Rant ~ The sadness in our hearts for our Londoners.

Rave ~ The wonderful nurses, doctors, firemen, police officers, ambulance drivers, paramedics, military personnel across the globe, that continue to choose to help, calm, cure, protect, nurture, heal, comfort, hug, and provide strength to those who in need. Also, to the stranger that passes by and aids someone in need.

Rave ~ To anyone that makes the choice to love and be kind, rather than be angry, Salute!

Rave ~ Hope.

God Bless, Tiff

Rant: Tropical storms. I live no where near the eye of Cindy, but had close to 2" of rain from the remnants. Could Dennis please die at sea? Please?

Rant: Terrorism

Rave: The response of most to the attacks in London. To take from Tony Blair "We will not be divided and our resolve will hold firm. We will show, by our spirit and dignity, . . . that our values will long outlast theirs. . . .We will not be terrorized"

Hugs to all who need them. Congrats to all who have had success in the past week.

JJ5 Jul 8th, 2005 06:25 AM

Rave: Beautiful summer weather at my lake and I wish all could enjoy good weather right now. Best swimming in years right now.

Rave: 3.9 million votes for Scott Posednik to get the last spot on the AL All-Star. White Sox Nation is arising.
57-26 We were over the moon and then the London events took it away. I still can't believe he beat Derek Jeter and Matt S. The Cell went mad when we found out mid-game and he ran out on the field.

Rave: 9 year old Grandson's team (All-Star Little League Homer Township IL) has won ANOTHER tournament and are now traveling far. We could see him on TV. My son is the coach. He's actually taking off work one day a week for this until it ends. They are still having fun too.

Rave: Good people who will continue to survive and eventually overcome the doings of psychopaths and their legacy.

Rave: Wish for safety for all, be it Dennis, the highway, or whatever.

Rave: OWJ's "no-name calling" suggestion/ rule. YES!

Rant: People who perceive a "blame the victim" mindset when beheadings, mutilation, bombs against human flesh- are the criteria for evaluation.

Have the best summer weekend you can, where ever you are.

Meesthare Jul 8th, 2005 06:32 AM

Rave: the good folks on this board and elsewhere who care so much and so deeply about other people - even the ones they've never met - that all the hatred and bitterness in the world can't kill the goodness in people's hearts.
Rave: We've bought our dream house in Victoria! And after only 3 days of looking. We can't believe it. It's perfect for us.
Rant: We actually have to pay for it. Where's Santa Claus when you need him?

bennnie Jul 8th, 2005 06:32 AM

Rant: That humans have the capacity to act so atrociously toward each other. Yesterday, terrorists in London struck and killed people on their way to work. And all through out the world, children were beaten, women were raped, and men murdered. Somewhere people tried to deny theirs and others humanity through acts of violence.

Rave: That humans also have the capacity for compassion, love and kindness. Yesterday there were extraordinary acts of courage and kindness in London and everywhere in the world. Yesterday, someone reached out to aid another in need whether to provide first aid or hold than hand of someone dieing, or provide food to a homeless man or adopt a parentless child. These acts of caring individuals throughout the world reaffirm the human dignity of all of us.

I choose to believe that yesterday there were far more acts of kindness than there were acts of violence.

cmcfong Jul 8th, 2005 06:34 AM

Rave: Tony Blair. He really is an incredibly articulate leader.
Rant: Terrorism
Rave: The English spirit!
