Hi Patrick – A bit of a late post but we had a hectic weekend, but if you do read this I’d like to clarify things – This was part of my post:
”leelane911, You really need to relax! I've been flamed by Patrick; it's all part and parcel of posting on a forum. Does that mean I don't value his opinion? Of course not! he gives valuable advice and generally I agree with his posts ” You in reply you posted – “alya, I think you missed the point. I was pointing out to Faina who was flamed by leelane that I was flamed by her for no reason as well. You almost make it sound like I was flaming leelane, when what I brought up was exactly the opposite!” My post was in response to leelane911 saying: “Patrick, what you say and how you mean it is often a matter of interpretation. You are very cutting and sarcastic with other posters at times.” Well, Patrick, you know sometimes you are 'cutting and sarcastic' but do I personally hold that against you? No!!! not in the slightest. Even if your posts are directed at me :-) Like I say it's all part and parcel of posting on a forum. |
Ooops, have just re-read my post.
Is 'part and parcel' a phrase known to Americans? |
alya, yes. :-D
|
Thanks Marilyn
Sometimes the most innocent phrase can trip me up and a questioning look comes over my friends’ faces. We had a discussion this evening about the difference between Jam and Jelly in a PB&J sandwich :-) |
we Brits of course would never use Jelly - that's the stuff that wobbles on a plate :-)
|
alya, there are entire threads on here devoted to the difference between British English and American English.
I love when my English friend asks what time in the morning I would like him to knock me up. And he loves it when I say, after a wonderful meal, that I am stuffed. :-D |
LOL Marilyn, too funny!
are you an insomniac as well as me? |
Nah, I sleep like a rock until the cats decide it's time for me to get up. It's not even midnight here in California. Where are you?
