Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 6-16-06

Rave: The northwest islands of the Hawaiian chain were designated a national monument yesterday. 1200 miles long and nearly as large as California, it will be the largest protected marine area in the world. This is a huge victory for the environment and I applaud George Bush for enacting it. =D>

Rant: Seems like the only time you hear someone referred to as a "Gentleman" these days is in reference to criminals. "The gentleman is accused of a series of rapes". (:|

Rave: The caring people who post on FFR&R. >:D<

Rant: Gays and Lesbians are up for the chopping block once again and the constitution may be amended to discriminate against them. :-<

A friend and Fodorite is dealing with a serious health issue in her family. She is always there with good thoughts for me and most everyone on these boards as well as great advice and often a big smile.
So I would wish that everyone reading this, just stop for a second and send out Good vibes and love to a very kind and good lady who needs every bit that you can send right now ((F))
Thank you, Scarlett

fun4all4 Jun 16th, 2006 03:23 AM

Another sending good thoughts, support and prayers.

Rave: World Cup

Rave: We leave for the airport in 5 hours for our 12 night trip to Wengen and Northern Italy! I can't believe that today is the day - I'm so excited. :-)

AnnMarie_C Jun 16th, 2006 03:43 AM

Scarlett, please let her know she is in my prayers. ((f))

Rave: We enjoyed a great visit last weekend with DH's dad. His "new life" as he likes to refer to it includes a new wife of 4 years. He didn't know how to tell DH that re-married so he waited a really long time which is too bad because we're happy for him but he did what he thought was best. ((l))

Rave: Faina's Friday Fun thread!! :-D

Rave: Our dearly beloved kitty who bounced back quickly after an attack by a stray. Now I know what it means to watch the fur fly. :-(

Rave: Great fathers

Happy Fathers Day to all fathers.

ethel Jun 16th, 2006 04:09 AM

Sending good vibes and prayers. Please let her know, Scarlett, we're thinking of her.

Rave: A great move on Bush's part!

Rant: Too many glasses of wine last night!!
Rave: Drank with a really good friend whom I haven't seen in a while.

Rant: Still haven't decided on that honeymoon destination. Although, I'm really leaning towards Puerto Vallarta. The idea of an all-inclusive on a beautiful beach sounds so enticing. Just not sure if the first week of Oct. is the best time to go.

Rave: Get to celebrate my wonderful father this weekend!!!!

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!!!!!!!!!

kswl Jun 16th, 2006 04:38 AM

Scarlett, she is on my prayer list for the grace and strength to weather this storm, regardless of its outcome.

RANT: Fodor's banning of Starrsville without the customary warning first.

RAVE: Little Howie (Bichon) is back after a month-long vacation in Florida (experiment by college-student son in keeping his dog that didn't quite work out) and our old Max dog is so happy to have him back! They have cute side-by-side wicker crates in the pantry but are both sleeping in the same one together :) Reminds me of how well the kids used to get along after a long summer away at their respective summer camps . . . it lasted about a week--

ethel Jun 16th, 2006 04:41 AM

WHAT?? Starrsville got banned? What did I miss?

cd Jun 16th, 2006 04:46 AM

kswl
When did Starrsville get banned? How does that happen? One day you just can't sign on?

Saraho Jun 16th, 2006 04:51 AM

Rave: fun4all4- have a wonderful trip! Go eat at Vino Vino in Venice.

Rant; I still have an annoying broken shoulder- it's a little better but slow to mend.

ronkala Jun 16th, 2006 05:02 AM

Rave:

Foster kittens are now climbing in and out of their box. Three more weeks and they go back to the shelter for adoption.

Our forty sixth anniversary is Sunday.

BuffaloGirl Jun 16th, 2006 05:11 AM

Best wishes to Scarlett's friend!

Rant: I have a cold. Summer colds are the worst.

Rave: It¡¦s going to be close to 90 degrees this weekend! Can we say beach?

Rant: The air conditioners aren¡¦t in the windows yet.

Rave: I love watching my son¡¦s soccer Thursday night soccer games.

Rant: My son acts like he just got out of jail. School ended Wednesday and he¡¦s been non-stop ever since. I asked him to do something with me tonight and he said ¡§Mom, are you crazy, it¡¦s my first weekend of summer vacation. I¡¦ll do something with you next week.¡¨ ƒ¼ It¡¦s hard when your kid becomes a teenager and he isn¡¦t your little boy anymore!

Rave: Thinking of visiting my brother in Vermont for July 4th. Roadtrip!

Have a great weekend everyone!

BuffaloGirl Jun 16th, 2006 05:12 AM

Rant: All those wierd symbols in my above post were supposed to be quotes " "!

kswl Jun 16th, 2006 05:13 AM

Yes, Starrsville was banned last night. She did not receive a warning or explanation email from Fodor's, which I am told is usual and customary.

Since I have not seen a post from her this a.m., I assume she is still banned. For what? Most likely for telling another poster to "shut up" on a thread that has now been closed to further replies. (I Got Scolded by Our Houseguest http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...kswl&fid=2 ) She and the other person had subsequently exchanged civil views on a different thread.

I must say it is interesting to me that posters can say very outlandish (almost violent) things, but to use almost a playground expression is not allowed. Sort of like the mom who sternly scolds her child for calling someone "stupid" while he is kicking the dog.

Perhaps gracie b has something to say on this subject? ((i))

Raves: Parents who volunteer to coach and actually enjoy it.

Raves: Our hard working construction crew!
