Freaky Friday Rants and Raves 6-16-06
Rave: The northwest islands of the Hawaiian chain were designated a national monument yesterday. 1200 miles long and nearly as large as California, it will be the largest protected marine area in the world. This is a huge victory for the environment and I applaud George Bush for enacting it. =D>
Rant: Seems like the only time you hear someone referred to as a "Gentleman" these days is in reference to criminals. "The gentleman is accused of a series of rapes". (:| Rave: The caring people who post on FFR&R. >:D< Rant: Gays and Lesbians are up for the chopping block once again and the constitution may be amended to discriminate against them. :-< |
A friend and Fodorite is dealing with a serious health issue in her family. She is always there with good thoughts for me and most everyone on these boards as well as great advice and often a big smile. So I would wish that everyone reading this, just stop for a second and send out Good vibes and love to a very kind and good lady who needs every bit that you can send right now ((F)) Thank you, Scarlett |

Rave: We enjoyed a great visit last weekend with DH's dad. His "new life" as he likes to refer to it includes a new wife of 4 years. He didn't know how to tell DH that re-married so he waited a really long time which is too bad because we're happy for him but he did what he thought was best. ((l)) Rave: Faina's Friday Fun thread!! :-D Rave: Our dearly beloved kitty who bounced back quickly after an attack by a stray. Now I know what it means to watch the fur fly. :-( |

Rave: A great move on Bush's part! Rant: Too many glasses of wine last night!! Rave: Drank with a really good friend whom I haven't seen in a while. Rant: Still haven't decided on that honeymoon destination. Although, I'm really leaning towards Puerto Vallarta. The idea of an all-inclusive on a beautiful beach sounds so enticing. Just not sure if the first week of Oct. is the best time to go. Rave: Get to celebrate my wonderful father this weekend!!!! Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there!!!!!!!!! |

RANT: Fodor's banning of Starrsville without the customary warning first. RAVE: Little Howie (Bichon) is back after a month-long vacation in Florida (experiment by college-student son in keeping his dog that didn't quite work out) and our old Max dog is so happy to have him back! They have cute side-by-side wicker crates in the pantry but are both sleeping in the same one together :) Reminds me of how well the kids used to get along after a long summer away at their respective summer camps . . . it lasted about a week-- |

Rave: I love watching my son¡¦s soccer Thursday night soccer games. Rant: My son acts like he just got out of jail. School ended Wednesday and he¡¦s been non-stop ever since. I asked him to do something with me tonight and he said ¡§Mom, are you crazy, it¡¦s my first weekend of summer vacation. Yes, Starrsville was banned last night. She did not receive a warning or explanation email from Fodor's, which I am told is usual and customary.
Since I have not seen a post from her this a.m., I assume she is still banned. For what? Most likely for telling another poster to "shut up" on a thread that has now been closed to further replies. (I Got Scolded by Our Houseguest http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...kswl&fid=2 ) She and the other person had subsequently exchanged civil views on a different thread. I must say it is interesting to me that posters can say very outlandish (almost violent) things, but to use almost a playground expression is not allowed. Sort of like the mom who sternly scolds her child for calling someone "stupid" while he is kicking the dog. Perhaps gracie b has something to say on this subject? ((i)) |

AM, the fur really does fly doesn't it? It looked as if someone had broken a down pillow when our kitty got attacked! What the heck is this about Starrsville? For what she said in that fun house guest thread???? It NEEDED to be said! Someone was out of line and trod insensitively on a few toes in the process but it wasn't Starrsville. That really is a shame if that's the reason. Rant: untrained posters dispensing potentially dangerous medical advice. |
Rave--Had an entertaining time helping out with field day at the middle school this week. The kids were wild!

Dear Scarlett, thank you for your request for prayers and good thoughts for your friend and ours, even though unnamed. You are a dear friend indeed. Know that she is being prayed for, for her health and strength to be restored. We wish her the very best.
Also, there was a posting yesterday by Kassanna, where a tragic accident resulted in a family member dying and her mother being hospitalized. I'm hoping the family dog has been found so as to give comfort to Kassanna's mother in this time of grief. Happy Father's Day to all you dads! |
Prayers to those in need of healing, and of course to Scarlett's pal.
Rant: DH broke his ankle last weekend, coaching little legue baseball of all things. I have spent all week making sure he stayed home from work a few days, elevated it, iced it, didn't drive, used his crutches, etc. him all week-making him stay home from work, use his crutches. I'll probably be thrown off this board for being so tough on him. Rave: Emergency Room staff and orthopedic MD who saw us at his house on Sunday to do follow-up after ER. Rant/Rave: 1 week til we leave for our beach vacation. We need it, but the beach will be hard for my DH. Good thing there is a pool too. Instead of our usual morning beach walks, I'll get to rollerblade and he can swim. Rave: Looking forward to hosing a big BBQ for my favorite Dads (DH and my own Dad) and lots of friends and family. Local strawberries are just being harvested so it looks like strawberry shortcake for dessert! Happy Friday, Happy Dad's Day. |

I'm glad it was tempera paint and washed right out, but she looked like she had severe head trauma for a while. Rave ~ All the "done" and "done again" and "done one more time"'s. It made my eyes well up in tears. And so I will follow suit with sending my hope out to your friend Scarlett. One huge "DONE" and a silent wish of peace and light for her. Rant ~ Jorr I could not agree more with your rant. It has bothered me for eons. No one told me I couldn't marry the love of my life and I can't imagine how it would hurt if that was the case. I wish this wasn't such an issue, and I wish that the people of the gay/lesbian community knew that they have so much more support than they realize. Rave ~ I got my fingers crossed that the Canes win the Cup! Rave ~ I am reading an incredible book right now written by an anonymous author, called A Woman In Berlin. It is very, very moving and written in journal form if anyone likes a non-fiction written in that style. Warning, you are immediately 'there' with the author and it can be quite sad at times. With that said to see her strength is truly amazing and quite inspirational. Ethel ~ sweetie I have an idea for you. You and your future DH have to write all of your honeymoon hopefuls on a slip of paper. Stick them in a hat, and pull, then we will help plan the rest! :) When is the big date again? Stealing someone's Rave from last week ~ Air conditioning!!!!!! It is a C-O-O-K-E-R here. I can remember a time long ago, first apartment, no a/c, records breaking temps, yikes! Rave ~ One huge Rave to what cmcfong said... I miss him so much. My father had THE most infectious laugh. It makes me smile now to think of it, and I can still hear him. God he loved to laugh but would have done anything to make those he loved laugh. I still credit him for the laughter we find especially during a difficult time. I miss you Daddy. Banned again? Rant: Seconding jorr's second rant. And while I'm at it, a rant for Ann Coulter. As nearly as I can tell, the only cause she really cares about is Ann Coulter. Okay, no more politics. If Starrsville really was banned, then that is completely ridiculous.
First of all, the "shut up" was completely in jest and even so, well deserved. Second, the issue was some posters saying irresponsible things about depression/anxiety medicine. I think it is more important to reprimand the Scientologists on this board, rather than the helpful and well meaning members like Starrsville. Rave: TGIF Rant: Work being too stressful. Rave: Bush finally recognizing that we should be aware of the environment and his move in Hawaii. Hopefully he doesn't lease out any space to Texaco or Shell for oil exploration (lol)! Rant: The cost of homes in my area (Suburban New Orleans) has gone through the roof. UGGGGGH! Rave: Being able to spend Father's Day with my father-in-law, who I look at like a father. |
