Hi CAPH, Saw that E was banned. Yes who is next? Complain and one is banned. Strange situation IMO.

LoveItaly Nov 11th, 2005 10:55 PM

CAPH, just saw your other post. Your daughter doesn't have mono I hope!! Has she been seen by a doctor? If not may I suggest she go to one. I hope she is well soon.

viamar Nov 11th, 2005 11:01 PM

Caph, sorry to hear about your daughter. My daughter (12) just got over being sick, temp 103, and I can't imagine being away from her while she is sick. I've never thought about what that would be like until now. I guess I'll have to prepare myself.

LoveItaly Nov 11th, 2005 11:03 PM

Oh travgina, I just saw your post (I have been out to dinner this evening so did not read all the posts until just now). Your comment leaves me speechless, I don't know what to say. Thank you is not sufficient..so all I can say is that I will try to live up to your description of me. And thank you too CAPH. I hope I will not dissapoint either of you, but I probably will at one time or another. But again, my sincere thanks.

CAPH52 Nov 11th, 2005 11:10 PM

Hi LoveItaly,

I don't think she has mono. Or at least I hope not! She's been tested for it at least three times in the last few years! She called student health services today. They told her they were completely booked but gave her the number to call the nurse. The nurse told her that her symptoms were exactly those of the virus that's been going around campus. (She also mentioned that my daughter hadn't been sick long enough yet to be tested for mono!) She said she could squeeze her in if she wanted to rule out tonsilitus. But we decided that, given that her symptoms were exactly those of the virus, it was probably a waste of their time and hers for her to go in. And that she'd probably be better off staying in her room and resting than trudging across campus to student health services.

I think this is just sort of all par for the course for her. When she runs a fever, she tends to run a high one. And it always seems to take her a while to shake anything she gets.

You probably remember my FF R&R post of a few months ago saying that she was being tested for Lupus. One of the things they found during the blood work for that was that her white blood cell count was low. Her internist said that some people just naturally have low white blood cell counts. But I can't help wondering if that's why she has a hard time shaking viruses, etc.

I'm just grateful that she's gotten into her second year without being really sick. During middle school and high school she got at least one really bad bout of strepp or something similar each year.

Anyway, LoveItaly, thank you so much for your concern. And, don't worry, you've already lived up to my expectations many times over!

What a strange week on Fodor's, huh?! I'm beginning to wonder whether we should plan to meet at another website when we're all banned from here!

CAPH52 Nov 11th, 2005 11:38 PM

Hi, viamar. Thanks for your good wishes.

Like everything else with raising kids, as they get older your "expectations" change. I remember when my daughter was a baby thinking that I just couldn't imagine letting her go out in the world to go to school. But, of course, by the time she was old enough for preschool, I was ready to let her go. This is sort of the same thing. At least to the extent that it's easier to be away from her when she's sick than it would have been when she was 12. But, as I said in my earlier post, it's still not easy!

However, I realized that when my MIL was the same age, she was married and pregnant! Which makes me realize that there are a lot of ways of measuring maturity. Obviously, at 20, married and pregnant, my MIL probably wouldn't have cried to her mother about being sick. But even now, 8 children and 20 grandchildren later, she would never have been brave enough to go off to school by herself 900 miles from home!

LoveItaly Nov 11th, 2005 11:42 PM

Hi CAPH, I am glad to know that your daughter has talked to the medical people. I have never been in the medical field but I did get concerned about your daughter as her symptoms sounded the same that a friend of mine had..and hers was mono.

BTW CAPH, some time ago my daughter was tested for Lupus also. She did not have it although she had most of the symptoms of it..so I know the worry about that.

Regarding the "other problem", stay tuned!! Can't say more now but some intersting information has developed. Take care and have a good weekend. Sure hope you daughter recovers from whatever she has immediately. And thank you again for your kind comments to me, they touch my heart.

CAPH52 Nov 11th, 2005 11:57 PM

Thanks for your good wishes, LoveItaly! And I must say, you've certainly got me curious about "the other problem"! I will definitely stay tuned!

What next? take care all, and remember the old adage ... this too shall pass. Ciao

seetheworld Nov 12th, 2005 04:35 AM

Hi CAPH, just read your post. I'm sorry to hear your DD is sick! I hope she is feeling stronger very soon. My oldest son ended up with mono during his Sophmore year. Like your daughter, when he gets a fever he always runs a very high one (always a bit scary when he was little). Sounds like she has some very nice friends who are keeping an eye on her. I wish her a speedy recovery (try not to worry too much).

I appreciate the crossed fingers, lol. Apparently when PM crossed her fingers for me, it worked for her as well :D I can't wait for Monday to arrive so this knot in my stomach will go away - either way, just knowing will be better than this knot in my stomach :)

Hello seetheworld. You sure are in my thoughts and prayers. May all your news be good!! Waiting for test results is torture..I hope you can find something to do this weekend to bring you serenity. My best wishes to you.

viamar Nov 12th, 2005 03:15 PM

Caph, interesting, my daughter has been tested for Lupus as well. She doesn't have it thank God, but it takes her .a long time to get over any illness. She gets strep about once a year and so did I when I was younger. I was tested for Mono a few times too and never had it. It's weird that people can have the same symptoms yet doctors don't always know what could be causing it. Take care.

stjohnbound Nov 12th, 2005 03:21 PM

I haven't read every post but I wanted to respond to the daughter's illness. Has she been checked for Epstein Barr? My sister has it and has the same symptoms described. Really nothing that can be done for it though. It's basically low immunity.

P_M Nov 12th, 2005 03:22 PM

The smile still hasn't left my face. :-D I will be starting sometime around Dec. 1. The only bad news is that I probably won't be posting to this board much from work, but I'll still tune in on evenings and weekends.

Thank you all so very much for your kind congrats, for joining in my sing-along, and for the happy dances. Seetheworld, I sent you an email. Please let us know about the test results. I'm bursting with positive vibes this weekend, so I will send some of those your way.

CAPH, I'm sending positive vibes to you for the health of all in your family. klr6773, best wishes to your daughter and your pup. I hope they will be well soon. Travgina, I couldn't have said it better myself. You have hit on all the reasons we all love LoveItaly. ((l))

Yawn_boring Nov 12th, 2005 05:07 PM

PamSF,

glad to hear that, as despicable as the it is that the people of San Francisco have voted to not support our brave military, at least they aren't doing it with the bogus 'don't ask/don't tell' nonsense. a very small step in the right direction.

as far as your son or daughter fighting, we all know this is a volunteer army, and it's also true that this current group of volunteer service members is among the greatest any country has ever fielded.

Catbert Nov 12th, 2005 06:27 PM

The people of SF did NOT vote to not support our military. The people of SF voted to not recruit for that military on High School campuses. There's a HUGE difference.

Most people in San Francisco are completely supportive of our troops and pray for their safe return.

LoveItaly Nov 12th, 2005 06:31 PM

Hi CAPH, I just posted "regarding the wine list at Flying Fish" here on the US Board if you want to read it. That is what I was referring to last night.

And P_M I am still so happy for you!!
Know you two really enjoyed that bubbly you purchased yesterday afternoon! And thank you for the lovely comment. Someone at Fodor's might not agree however.

Everyone, best wishes that all health problems are cleared up immediately!

leelane911 Nov 12th, 2005 06:40 PM

Catbert, that is some statement that you've made. If a city will not let military recruitment take place in the public schools, that city is not supporting our military. Support comes in the form of action. Its easy to say you support the troops as long as there's nothing you need to do to back it up!
