P_M Nov 11th, 2005 10:43 AM

Thank you all, you are ALL so kind!!

I am going to sneak out early today, stop at the store and pick up a bottle of bubbly, and be in full celebration mode before 5pm!! I still haven't told DH yet, I want to tell him in person.

Since my vacation time will transfer to my new job, I will spend the weekend planning my next trip. 8-)

I feel so giddy. O-)

Eeva Nov 11th, 2005 10:43 AM

P_M Congrats on the new job!!

Bennie-Generally what they will do is arrange a daytime meeting through the guidance department. We have set times that teams meet and they try to funnel the overflow into some slots over the next couple of weeks. Is this a possibility for you? Funny, I just got off the phone with my best friend who was asking me the exact same question. Maybe we need to think about extending our times a bit...

michelleNYC Nov 11th, 2005 11:01 AM

Congrats, PM!! I'll toast you this evening with a nice, dry martini... ((d))

Rave: Sunshine after gloomy days.

Rant: Stupid people who think dissent is un-American. They are wrong on so many levels.

Rave: Good news vis-à-vis health and jobs for my fellow Fodorites! Great ways to start a weekend.

Rant: Stupid people who wish God's wrath (or terrorist acts) on whole cities who do things the idiots don't like. And as I recall-- after Pat Robertson wished a hurricane on Orlando for not stoning gays to death, a hurricane hit his home town. God-- if (S)He exists-- has a very twisted sense of humor and poetic justice.

Rave: Looks like it will be a lovely weekend.

Rant: Censorship on this Forum. Let's take to the streets!!

Rave: Here's to the Veterans out there. Your sacrifices are appreciated. **== **== :)

hsv Nov 11th, 2005 11:28 AM

Rave: Had a fabulous two week trip to my beloved SoCal

Rant: It's over - for almost a week and I am back in the cold

Rave: Got a work assignment for three months in California starting next February

Rant: Random censorship

Great weekend for everybody

jorr Nov 11th, 2005 11:29 AM

LoveItaly, Thank you. My Dad and I do have a great relationship and he is my best friend. He is a WWII vet who went back to the family farm. I grew up as a farm boy and my Dad was my boss so-to-speak throughout my teen years.

My parents wanted me to pursue my dreams. I have traveled the world, joined the armed forces (as an Adult over 21), college, lived in several American cities and returned to the beautiful farm in the north country where I now live. My parents built a new home closer to civilization! The snow blower looks like it might come out by next week but today it is warm and the last horray of fall.

Happy Veterans Day! My heartfelt thanks for your sacrifices. What an privilege to honor you today! **== **== **== **==

Congrats P_M! ((*))

Good job on completing the NYC marathon, GoT. What an inspiration.

Glad to hear good health news from Cassandra and mikemo's DIL.

Rave: looks like we're not working this weekend! Wow, it's been so long since we've had a free weekend!

Rave/Rant: basketball season has begun. It's so fun to watch them play, but there will be a lot of traveling in the next couple of months.

Have a great weekend, everyone! ~sunbabe

cd Nov 11th, 2005 11:38 AM

CONGRATULATIONS P.M.!!! It is so good to hear good news!!!!

Another rant: Pat Robertson is such a jerk, moron, idiot.......cannot believe people actually believe that crap.

Margaret_Hawes Nov 11th, 2005 12:24 PM

Rave: To the veterans who have been willing to sacrifice their time and lives for our liberty

Rave: To this wonderful Fodor's community! I'm one of the lurkers Peter has been trying to attract to the board. I hope you all realize what an inspiration you can be at times.

Rant: To injustice and a complete lack of business sense. Are you listening, Peter?

Just a little bit of info about me: I haven't been registered in years, in large part because I work for a hotel company and I don't want it thought that I'm advertising my product. I'm seldom on the internet in my spare time.
I want to say that your hurricane threads last year were the best example of community, friendship and empathy I've ever seen. I did a lot of disaster preparedness/disaster relief work when I was younger and you were heroic through all those weeks. I actually came here to get hour/hour updates. You were better than CNN and NOAA! I hope you go on the same way.
I don't know how much I'll actually participate. It depends in large part on Peter. The forums are calmer these later years, but not nearly as much fun. I just had to express my thanks for hours of fun and advice thought the past few years.

=D> -D> =D> Congratulations, P_M!!! and best wishes to you in your new job! =D> =D> =D>

ronkala Nov 11th, 2005 12:44 PM

Rant:

Politicians who are using today to promote their war in Iraq.

LoveItaly Nov 11th, 2005 12:57 PM

Oh jorr, thank you for giving some of your history. My daughter and I our best friends too. I feel very blessed as I am sure your dad does. Having a child love you so much that they consider you there best friend is a gift from heaven IMO. BTW, I never thought of this until I read your last post. Our daughter worked in our business through HS too, and even afterwards so I guess I was her "boss" also, LOL.

Also wanted to tell you, the general contractor I hired is fantastic! Will wonders never cease. His employees are great fellows too. Lots of work was needed (more than just painting the exterior of the house) but thank goodness this fellow knows what he is doing and he is so depenable. And they show up when they say they will.

Take good care Jorr.

PamSF Nov 11th, 2005 01:26 PM

Ok~I'm in!!The measure against recruitment has NOTHING to do with "Don't Ask,Don't Tell". It is about military recruiting of our young men and women. I'd not want my son or daughter or any one else's to have to fight a war of such corruption. 2000 people have died fighting for the US Armed Forces in that WAR. It's too many already.

Sorry but that "Don't ask, don't tell" swat was really infuriating.

buckeyemom Nov 11th, 2005 01:30 PM

Rant-It's a sad day in Fodorville when our beloved Patrick gets banned! :((

Rave-Beautiful November so far. I think we are going to pay for this...

Rave-Veteran's Day. Thank you Vets for your service to our country. **==

Rant-Why aren't more people flying their flag today? **== **== **== **==

Have a safe and happy weekend.

klr6773 Nov 11th, 2005 01:43 PM

Rave: Condo closed quickly, and I took no time to pay off all of my debts...what a feeling!

Rant: My mini dachsund was at the losing end of a mauling by my sister's Chow Chow. Blood in his lung, and a really nasty pucture wound. Also found out through x-rays that he has an enlarged heart....Spent yesterday at vet, took him home, but now he's back at the vet today, as bleeding isnt stopped.....Vets swear he'll be fine so I'm going to believe them!

Daycare called me an hour ago to pick up daughter...throwing up...what a day....

OneWanderingJew Nov 11th, 2005 02:44 PM

RAVE--PM's new job! Yay!!! Have a drink to celebrate on me ((B)) ((D)) (Isn't their a wine glass icon somewhere. Couldn't find it...)

RANT: The banning of Patrick. I don't get it and it ticks me off to no end.

Rave: GoTravel--my Gators play your Gamecocks tomorrow. Should we place a wager or would that lead to us being booted off the board? And congrats on your big accomplishment.

Happy Veteran's Day, all, and have a safe healthy, peaceful weekend.

rb_travelerxATyahoo Nov 11th, 2005 04:42 PM

Rave: nice day albeit cold (but going to be a great weekend) and I was going to take "our" day off (Veterans' Day) but the pager went off at 10am!

Rant: Dubya using today to support his war and worse yet to bully those who would question him

When I "hung my own shingle" a few years ago I vowed I'd always take Nov 11 off but never have. I put in 6 lllloooonnnnggg years in USN as a nuclear (or "nukular" in Bushese) propulsion plant operator.

I don't think military recruiters should receive any more, nor any less info on seniors than any college receives, and I think that it should be an opt-in permission type thing, not a "permission assumed unless opt-out" type thing.

Greetings to my fellow veterans.

Patrick's Ban? Sick of hearing about it and it wasn't even worthwhile to come to Fodors the last few days with the juvenile protests. I've nothing against Patrick - he calls it as he sees it - and I'm sure it is only temporary. Heck, I got a time out awhile back too and it wasn't the end of the world. For gosh sakes, you'd think that someone has shot the Pope or president and that Fodors was trying to cover it up. My "probation" was a good time to just cool it and reduce my bbs-junkie habit, and I'm sure Patrick will too. I think that as a veteran I have some unique feelings of "entitlement" about my rights. But I have no right to publish my words on this BBS. The freedom of the press belongs to Fodors. As I'm told when I complain about recipes, etc., "you can always start your own forum" and the same goes for anyone else.

Rave: Our marathoners and everyone else who makes an effort to accomplish physical feats of any type, distance, or duration.

travgina Nov 11th, 2005 05:17 PM

Rave: ALL veterans and ALL those currently serving in the military. I hate this war, but I appreciate those who are defending our right to hate it.

Rant: Pat Robertson (for SO many reasons!)

Rave: Grandkids' hockey is starting - lots of travel coming up to watch their games (God love 'em)!

Rant: Censorship here and anywhere.

Rave: Although I post quite often on Fodors, I have learned so much about other posters just by lurking, and I want to congratulate P_M on her new job (I know what she's gone through with all the interviews and waiting to hear back, etc.). It is such a relief when you are no longer in limbo, waiting for a job to materialize.

Rant: Getting out the snowblower - although I love the holiday season.

Rave: People like LoveItaly who I admire so much because she has the best outlook on life, is so compassionate and encouraging, and seems to find the best in almost everyone. LoveItaly, you are truly a classy lady!

Rant: Politics and politicians. Enough said!

I've had a very emotional day. Can you tell? LOL

I wish all Fodorites a wonderful weekend!

CAPH52 Nov 11th, 2005 09:08 PM

Congratulations, P_M! Such good news!

STW, I've got my fingers crossed for you. But I'm sure you passed. Please let us know as soon as you hear.

Second travgina's rave about LoveItaly!

RANT: Patrick's banning

Bigger RANT: The fact that we don't know for sure exactly what caused the banning. Was it the Seattle Whine thread? Apparently, according to the thread on News and Announcements, he was held to a higher standard. But just how did he violate that higher standard? As Cassandra so eloquently put it, how does it serve as an example for him or the rest of us if we don't know what the offense was?

RANT: On a more personal note...My daughter is sick for the first time since she's been away at school. Just a virus that's going around campus--swollen throat, high fever, achy, etc.
But she called in tears the other night. There's nothing quite like being sick to reduce a 20 year old to a two year old who needs her mommy! And it's hard for me too. Oh, I know (and she knows) that she's quite capable of taking care of herself. But all the same...

RAVE: It's nice to know you're still needed even when your "baby" is 20!

Bigger RAVE: Her hall-mates who've been wonderful about bringing her popsicles from the dining hall and just generally making sure she's okay.

RANT: Pat Robertson. Misrepresenting Christianity.

RANT: The terrorists who attacked Jordan. Misrepresenting Islam.

CAPH52 Nov 11th, 2005 10:28 PM

RANT: E has been banned. Apparently because she supported Patrick. This is getting very bizarre. Who's next?
