Hey Faina, good for you!!! How exciting.
Which reminds me. USToday just announced that Delta Airlines starting next March 27th will have nonstop flights from Atlanta GA to Tel Aviv...that might be a convienent flight. I don't know why so many of us have had "lost jewerly" problems lately. I truly hope that everyone that has find theirs. And Meesthare, I can imagine how you felt when you found your jewerly amoung your underwear. One time, the night before we left for Italy, I remembered I hadn't put my jewerly in the bank safedepost box. So feeling clever I put it under the artificial grass of the Easter basket my daughter had received from the Easter bunny a few months before. Put the basket on the top shelf of a closet. Returned home from our trip and well you know the rest..."where is my jewerly?" LOL. I was in a panic but honestly had no idea where it was. About two months later I noticed the Easter basket and went to throw it away and heard a strange noise. Lifted up the artifical grass..well you know the end of the story. Good grief, hiding jewerly can get scary, LOL. How happy you must be in Victoria, I love Vancouver Island. Lucky you! |

Re your little niece's birthday present, I just got my 4-year-old niece the newly released, remastered DVD of Walt Disney's Cinderella and she just loves it. If you want a more long-term idea, I have a friend who has given her twin nieces a pearl every year on their "Add-a-pearl" necklaces. The girls are now 20 and the necklaces are lovely. I think it will stop with their 21st birthdays. There's a little bit of gold chain between each of the pearls and it's very pretty. |
Hi hdm, that is a lovely idea, add a pearl for each occassion. How sentimental. I would imagine that this pearl necklace will be very special to your friends nieces.
|
It is a nice idea, although I have to caution that it will seem very boring to a little girl for many years, so the wise uncle will also come up with a toy or book or something else that can be unwrapped. The girls didn't actually get interested in the necklaces till they were 12 or 13. They'll make nice heirlooms, too.
I'm all for things that can be handed down. My family was terrible about things like that -- the only thing I have that belonged to my grandmother is a dreadful-looking covered dish. And nothing at all that was my mother's. |
How could I have forgotten in my previous post, GO WHITE SOX GO!!!!! Win tonight and I'll have no rants!
|
Unfortunately, I have a RANT... just learned a bus got hit by a boulder in India, dead and injured, and a friend of mine is there now traveling with her family. No details, no names posted yet, or at least I can't find any.
She should fly home... because of the time difference I can't figure out when, maybe today. All I can do is send her an e-mail. To call would be useless. I can only wait. |
LoveItaly - I love your story about your sterling. I know that pattern - it always caught my eye. I fell in love with my china pattern when I was about 14 (Ainsley Pembroke). My mom would get a catalog that had every imaginable china pattern and I would spend hours looking at them. When I turned 23 I bought myself 12 place settings, coffee and teapots, serving platters etc. even vases and candy dishes -every darn thing that was available in the catalog. I don't use it every day but I love love love it and its been 20 years.

Oh bennie, thanks for sharing!!! I guess some of us do have taste that never change! I don't know about you but even the colors and styles that I love, in my residence, my clothes etc. have been the same all my life. But I have had so many friends that are "changing everything" every so often, how about you?
|
Dear Faina, I pray that your friend and family are safe and were not in harms way. I know you will not relax until you here from her but do try to remember the chances that she and her family were on that bus is not likely. But I sure understand your stress. Let us know the outcome.

Rant: The humidity today! Please, someone, send some snow and cold temps please...anyone...okay?!?! O-)
Double-Rave: My DH picks up his new car tomorrow - it took hours for him to pick the interior color (he nearly drove my insane...some would say that's not a far trip hee, hee, hee), but he should be pleased. The oldest son will now have a car of his own and end his commuting nightmare, lol. :) Rave, me thinks? The youngest son calls yesterday to ask if there was any food in the refrigerator....that means only one thing...HE'S COMING HOME! By the way, he'll be in for a big surprise (hint: no food) :D :D :D Rave: Sunshinesue! I'm so glad your son and family is safe! Rant: My friend, PM, is feeling the stress of her job hunt. I know it will happen for you - hang in there :) Rant: Faina's worry, I hope you will hear from your friends very soon. RANT: NYC transit terror BS - you said it well Michelle X( Rave: The caring people on this forum. The fun we can have on this site; lots of laughs and big smiles - thanks for that :d Rave: Scarlett's son will be returning home soon >:D< Rave: Still looking forward to attending the NJ/NY GTG! :-d Bonnie, I hope it cools off enought to make your banana bread this weekend! Caph, was it a peaceful week? [-o< Now for my earring story: A few years back, I threw caution to the wind and rode a banana boat with my youngest son while in Mexico (that's a nutty story all by itself). Anyway, I had my favorite gold hoops on and when I returned to shore, one was missing. I still think it was sweet of my DH to try and "look" for it along the beach, but of course, it was nowhere to be found. :) Wishing everyone a beautiful fall weekend! (~~) |
Rant-Cool, wet weekend.
Rave-Got the urge to bake and cook all weekend. Rant-Another beautiful young girl found murdered in VA. Rave-It is comical watching my dog try to catch squirrels. The squirrels sure do like to aggravate him. :-) Rave-NHL finally back on the ice! St. Anthony does work! Have a great weekend everyone! |
Happy friday all! I am too tired to read all of these posts. I got home at 3am from the Rolling Stones concert in Charlottesville VA last night. Those guys are still rocking great! I can't believe what a good show they can put on. There was a one hour delay mid concert for a bomb scare...that is my RANT!! We would have gotten home a lot earlier if it wasn't for that. RAVE for the Stones. RANT for the exit out of the city of Charlottesville plan. It took 3 hours to go the normal hour drive.
Enough said. Have a good weekend all. I have one more Rave. I get to see my whole family this weekend. So it is a rave for me. |
One more important rave....
October is breast cancer awareness month! Please, please, please get a mammogram! |
seetheworld-Thanks for the reminder.

Rave: found jewelry!
Rave: SunshineSue's family is safe. Rave: Scarlett's little boy is coming home! Rave: Mikemo's 15 minutes of fame - good article! Rave: new walking shoes, a pair of Merrell mocs Rant: the people in my neighborhood who can't seem to keep their fences repaired. When I walk Daisy Dog in the mornings, I end up looking like I have a traveling menagerie! Rave: I guess I should be glad she's a popular puppy... Lee Ann |
Rave: You're all so nice and homey and I mean that in a good way. It is cute that you make this web site your backyard fence or a coffee club.
Rant: I had to cancel my European trip because of a physical condition. Rave: I hope to reschedule for early next year maybe Eastertime. Rave: I am feeling alot better and I am glad I found Fodors. :D |
Rave: It's RAINING!!!! (everything has been SO dry for SO long our lovely lawn is half dead and they are talking about mandatory water restrictions..so every drop of rain HELPS right now)
Rave: My DH is making beef stew for dinner :-) Rave: I just don't have a single rant that I can think of (at least not personal...I won't spoil this thread or mood with my political rants) :-d |
My rants and raves this week are all about medical issues.
Rant: My mom in the hospital for nine days and me visiting her a couple times a day. On the seventh day a nurse told me I was supposed to be wearing a gown and gloves as she had an infection that is "physically contagious". No one had told me that in an entire week -- and no other nurse or doctor visiting her had been wearing such apparel. Scary! Rave: My partner and I started with a new doctor this week -- one we've known for years as a pharmacist but who once his kids went to college, he and his wife did too and both have become doctors in their mid 50's. The best part is that a friend of his is a major drug rep and so our doctor handed Lee about a 6 month free supply of Aricept -- his Alzheimer's medication that costs over $5 a pill! That's nearly a thousand dollars worth of free pills -- and he said to let him know when running low and he'll resupply! I also learned more about my diabetic medications from him in 15 minutes than I've ever gotten before! |
Kureiff--I had to laugh at you ornament suggestion. My brother actually married a girl who's not Jewish so the Bday girl celebrates both holidays. I won't get her an ornament but may work off the collectible suggestion...or maybe I should regift the many Christmas ornaments I've gotten as teacher gifts--that wouldn't be too tacky, would it? :D
Rant--Lost earrings--I can so relate! I lost my one of step-grandmother's diamond studs a couple of years while trying on clothes. I had taken a sick day just 'cuz and went shopping. I didn't start out sick but sure was after I realized it was gone. I'm still sick over it. I didn't dare tell my step-mom and quietly replaced it--an expensive mistake but now I have supersecure clutch backs. |
