Raves - Dealing withthe angst of teens

kureiff, I'm sure that's a lovely memory you have of your grandfather, and putting those ornaments on the tree must be very special. My mother follows the same tradition by giving Christmas ornaments to my nephew every year. But I don't think that idea will work for One Wandering Jew, as our Jewish friends do not celebrate Christmas. :-)

that would be RANT with angst w/teens

Greetings FFR&R'ers ~

Oh my goodness SunshineSue, I am so glad that you son is ok. How scary indeed. What a wonderful relief that he was not injured. And also the capsized sailboat, your family sur has had a scary week!

OWJ ~ If you have a ToysRUS by you, just go in there and tell ask them what is the hottest thing right now for a 5 y.o. girl. I have three nieces, and this has always worked for me! Also I like you idea Bennnie, I have always given a toy & then a savings bond. Someday I think they will appreciate it.

To all the lost earrings owners ~ Painful I know! Once I lost a pair of earrings because I put them in a 'safe' place, but then for the life of me couldn't remember where my 'safe' place was, ha. (I have done this with a couple of other items, some return, some stay lost. I have this theory that when you get to heaven St. Peter greets you, shows you around, and then when you get to your quarters, a box of all your "lost stuff" in waiting at the foot of your bed for you! How fun would that be, can't you just see yourself, "Oh yeah, I forgot I lost that!") Ha.

Rave ~ Reading a book that you can't put down.

Rant ~ The sadness that ultimately follows when the last page of the book is read.

Rave ~ Finding out that the book has a sequel. Joy, joy, joy!!!!!!!!!

Rant ~ The sadness that ultimately follows when the sequel is finished, ha!

I wish all of you a pleasant Friday and a lovely weekend. Hugs to all.

((L)) Tiff

Rant: Rain, after 2 months without, it is forecast for the Navy game tomorrow and someone gave us tickets! Argh!

Hope saying "Good thoughts to everyone with problems" will suffice since 40 people have answered already! Sounds like everyone needs some poison this week...

Late Rave: SO and I made the NYT's print edition (but not the on line) re: SMdA today.

Rant: DIL screemed on the subway when she saw the article - high terrorist alert forced several folks to change clothing.

Mikemo, at the risk of appearing stupid, what is SMdA??

jorr Oct 7th, 2005 08:48 AM

OneWanderingJew, These freak snow storms are quite common. Six years ago I was traveling through Souix Falls SD on Oct. 2 and had to stay in a hotel because the interstate was shut down because of heavy snow. The next morning my vehicle was cover with ice and snow and I had to get a "jump" to start the engine. Western and northern ND got hit hard on thursday. Some parts got 15" with 40 MPH winds. Many years ago many duck hunters far into the swamps frooze to death when a freak snow storm came in Oct.

Here's one, kureiff. :-[ Unfortunately I get waaayy too much use out of this, not just here on the board, but mostly in real life.

And here's a hug to you. >:D< Buying Christmas ornaments for a child is a beautiful idea for those of us who celebrate the season. What a great way to create lasting memories.

capecodshanty Oct 7th, 2005 08:54 AM

Ah- one of the most beautiful towns in Colonial Mexico!! Have a friend, who owned a gallery here on the Outer Cape who now lives in San Miguel Allende. Hope to visit some day!

Dear OWJ, buying sterling for your niece, that idea made me smile because...I was about 4 years old and went into the Capwell's Dept Store (here in CA) and my eyes got so big. They had all kinds of sterling displayed. And my eye went to the Wallace Grand Broque pattern.

I fell in love with it and loved it all my growing up years. My aunts wanted to start buying me place settings for my birthdays, Christmas etc. but my mother told them not to as I would change my mind about what sterling pattern I would want many times before I was an adult. So I didn't receive any place settings. That made me so angry, LOL!

I purchased the Wallace Grand Broque place settings for 12 (including seaforks, double the amount of teaspoons, butter knives etc.) with all the extra serving pieces myself when I was about 19 years old. Brueners had a great deal. Pay it over 36 months with no interest charges. Which I did. It is the sterling I have always used day in and day out, for every meal. I put it in the dishwasher and it comes out beautiful.

Of course not every little 4 year old girl chooses the sterling she wants for the rest of her life and probably your dear little niece doesn't have any idea what she would like.

But you could take her on a special shopping trip when you and she are together and look at the sterling flatware. And in the meantime you could give her a "throw away" present and start a savings account for her...with the idea that it will be added to over the years so that when she is all grown up she will have a nice savings account to purchase her sterling flatwear. But then again not everyone is into sterling as I am...hugs to you!

Thanks for the embarassed smiley P_M. You made me feel better! :)

Rave: Rain, rain, rain....here in North Carolina we have suffered a long drought and the rain brings relief, at last.
Rave: St. Augustine and Charleston this month!
Rant: Malicious posters who put spam, advertising and nasty messages on this board. Ignore them, let them fall to the bottom of the message list. Every reply puts them right back up at the top.
