there are lots of recent postings about this topic-=-at least about what to see about the grand canyon---i would think if you have a car you would be wiser (and save a lot of money) to drive yourself rather than take tours from flagstaff--i don't know how much time you have but i would think at least you would want to see sedona and then spend a day at the grand canyon and then go to northeast arizona and see monument valley and canyon de chelley

Don't miss the Cottage restaurant in Flagstaff. I was amazed to find 5 star dining in such a small town! I agree with touring yourself. Sedona is an easy drive from Flag, as the Grand Canyon. You probably don't want to do "a lot" of touring in Flagstaff itself, but the day trips from there (above) are wonderful.

I agree, Grand Canyon and Sedona are an easy drive from Flagstaff. My husband and I found Flagstaff to be the most charming town after visiting the Grand Canyon and Sedona in October 2000. We stayed in the town of Williams which was an easy drive to the Grand Canyon and then spent a few nights in Sedona before moving on to Flagstaff and Phoenix. We spend a lovely afternoon at Slide Rock State Park in Sedona with a picnic lunch, but it could be crowded in August.

Don't miss Chez marc Bistro in Flagstaff we just had our anniversary dinner and it was 5 star all the way. The book doesn't have the correct information in it, I went to there web site. Sedona has wonderful jeep tours that we took to tour Sedona and I personal like touring the Grand Canyon by car, I have done both train and bus. I enjoyed my freedom to go around the canyon when I wanted and were I wanted. Thanks
