Fall in Tucson
I visited Tucson for the first time in March, alone, spending most of my time outdoors. I liked it so much I'd like to take my seven-year-old and my parents to Tucson in early November. Is fall a good time to visit Tucson? Can I count on reasonable weather: not raining and not blistering hot? If it rains, are there fun family-oriented indoor activities? Any tips? Thanks!

Don't worry about rain in Tucson in November. Even one day would be unusual. Rainy season there is in August. And the heat will definitely be over. I believe November is one of the better times to visit Tucson if you want to take part in outdoor activities. My favorite places in Tucson? San Xavier del Bac mission and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The adults will really enjoy the mission and the museum is wonderful for any age. For your son (and for the child in all of us) make a visit to Old Tucson, a wild-west town where many western films were made, including the classic, Stagecoach. Have a great time in a fantastic town.

Try the Hidden Valley Ranch for dinner. The food is quite good and the miniature dioramas are interesting. I also like Little Anthony's - it's 50's style diner that really is very good. It's next door to a theater that puts on funny shows. Can't remember the name of it though - maybe Gaslight.

If your seven year old is a boy (or maybe a girl would also enjoy this) also check out the air museum. My son loved it. Not my cup of tea but there are tons or interesting and historic airplanes there. Kitt peak is very interesting for the astronomy fans and Mt Lemon and Sabino canyon are beautiful any time of the year. HAve fun.

November is a great time in Arizona. 80 -90 degrees & rain is scarce. I recommend a trip to Phoenix instead of Tucson though. You said you spent most of your time outdoors and there is plenty to do in Phoenix. I don't know if you like hiking - but Camelback Mountain is gorgeous at sunset. There are also two old west towns that your family would enjoy. My favorite is Rawhide (free admission). The town sheriff will arrest and throw them in jail which is good for a laugh. Phoenix also has great golf - TPC or Troon courses are incredible. Stay in Scottsdale and drive out to Carefree to see the desert. The sahuaros are amazing. I also recommend a day trip to Sedona. P.S. - Resort Suites of Scottsdale (next to the Fairmont Princess) is a great place to stay. They have full suites with kitchens and a few pools. The people who work there are the best in the area!
