Not a lot! There is a significant Basque community, however, and as a result Basque restaurants.

The Ruby Mountains are pretty but I doubt that they will have any snow on them this time of the year.

Utahtea...got stuck with car problems in Elko for one night some 30 years ago!

I spent a couple days in Elko about 10 years ago. We were on a family road trip through NV, UT, CO, and WY. When my dad was younger he worked on a ranch near there and he wanted to spend a couple days in the area because of that.

There isn't much to Elko, if I remember correctly there was a museum there about the history of the area, a few motels and restaurants, and not a whole lot else. The Ruby Mountains were nice - we did a little hiking there.

If you like cowboy poetry, Elko is your place! The granddaddy of cowboy poetry gatherings is in Elko - this year from Jan. 24-31 . They have a National Folklife Center which is the center of things. We went once for one day and evening and swore we would go again. It is cold that time of year and can be snowy but all of the action is indoors. The Basque restaurants do a great business (as do the bars.) There is lots of good music and great tales are spun. www.westfolk.org Enjoy, CJ
