Driving NO to Nashville, what to see on the way?
Hi ya'll. Me and my family live in So Cal. Next summer, mid-August to be exact, Hubby is going on a business trip to Nashville for about five days and I thought this would be a great time to show my "older" kids, teens, the Deep South, or some of it anyway.
Thought we would fly into NOLA for a few days, then drive, or mosey our way to Nashville, stopping at various places along the way. Sightseeing some. Eating. Maybe a little Civil WAr and history thrown in. They cannot take TOO much sightseeing. so this would need to be on the light side. Maybe taking two days to get to Nashville? Staying one night along the way, where I do not know.
Any ideas, must sees, must eats, must do's along the way? Thanks in advance.

It looks to be about an 8 hour trip if you go direct. How about New Orleans to Natchez, Mississippi, very pretty and quintessential deep south feeling, IMHO. Then I'd drive north to Memphis and see Graceland and Beal Street before heading over to Nashville.

Natchez would be a must see, for all the antebellum mansions, some of which are B&Bs you can stay in. If you are interested in the Blues, or in the MS Delta culture, you can drive up Highway 61, which is a historical road with lots of Blues stops along the way. Oxford, MS is a nice college town. If you want to go a little further out of the way, a day at the beaches in Gulf Shores, AL would be nice, a tour of Mobile, and a drive up Alabama instead of Mississippi. I don't know if they allow minors, but you may want to stop in Lynchburg, TN at the Jack Daniels distillery.

Thanks for the info. To enjoy Natchez, would we take a tour or is just driving around enough? My kids do not really care for B and B's. Are there hotels there as well.
Also, any great restaurants along the way? Thanks all.
