Do you want to stay in Andy Taylor's house?

http://www.usatoday.com/travel/desti...mayberry_x.htm

It's in Clear Lake, Wisconsin though. Mt. Airy folks, how did you let that happen!

Well, there's a picture of her lookalike baking cookies!

They are talking about replicas of other Mayberry locations too.

Too bad they didn't built it here in my town, SW of Portland, OR. I have called it Mayberry since before we moved back here, and our local magazine referred to it as the same

Darn, I was all excited . . . that looks far too new to me. Is the real house still on a movie set somewhere? Could we buy it and move it to a prime B & B location? Wouldn't that be fun . . . if only money were no object!

Well gosh, I'll have to check it out since it's up here in my neck of the woods only about a half an hour from my home. Pam

Over the 4th of July weekend I went to a free concert in the park. The entertainer started singing a song with a very familiar tune. I suddenly realized he was singing the song being whistled at the beginning of the Andy Griffith Show. I never knew that song had words. The words are about spending the day at the fishin' hole.

The original set is in Culver City. I would like to fill my car up at the prices they charged for gas in those days. Of course, they didn't have unleaded at that time.

Gas prices were good, but heck I'd like to buy the house for prices back then. Remember the episode when Andy was going to sell his house, and Barney told him he could easily get $2,400 for it? No typo, that's 24 HUNDRED, not thousand.

I've got a magnet on my fridge with the price of bread, gas, house, etc. in the 1950's - also average salary!

Yep, when you put it into perspective, we're probably better off today. I say that because overseas travel was something we middle class folks didn't do back then.

The REAL homeplace bed and breakfast is in Mt. Airy. www.andyshomeplace.com

Starrsville, as you know but many may not, we take Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bea and all the rest of the gang pretty seriously. Come here if you want a haircut at Floyd's, a pork chop sandwich at the Snappy Lunch or a ride in the squad car.

I've been there for lunch, but didn't know I could ride in a squad car! I'll be there soon!
