Disneyworld Dining Plan
Will be visiting Disneyworld soon. Our travel agent is recommending a dining deal. The cost is about $50.00 (Canadian) per day for adults. Have any of you taken advantage of this and if so what did you think of the plan? How easy is it to locate the restaurants that are accepting this plan? What was the food like?

Bad idea. These are the low cost places with really mediocre and sometimes really lousy food. If you live on junk food, this is an option. There are good choices elsewhere in Orlando Downtown Disney,Celebration and at the hotels. Have a good breakfast, and alternate dinners/lunches at Disney with outside choices. Where are you staying and what passes are you using?

Take a look at this website which has a lot of info (and user comments) on the Dining Plan.

We used the dining plan last summer - it was offered free to us as a promotion. After using it, we decided that even paying for it would be worthwhile. We ate at a different table service restaurant each night and really enjoyed ourselves. We absolutely would do it again.

I have to totally disagree with LLindaC. Almost every restaurant onsite is included in the plan, although some may count for 2 sit down meals (California Grill and Flying Fish that I know of). My BIL and his family (2 adults, a 13 yr old and 10 yr old) used it last Fall and their only complaint was that sometimes it was too much food. They ate at the steakhouse in Canada, Liberty Inn at MK and Ohanas at the Poly. that I know of. You get one counterservice meal (food court for example), one snack (a pop, popcorn, etc.) and one sit down meal of an appetizer, main course and dessert with a non-alcoholic drink.

LLindaC may be thinking of the dining vouchers that can be purchased and are different than the Dining plan.
The dining plan isn't a bad deal - you just have to decide whether you want to spend that much time eating. It is one table service meal, one counter service meal, and on snack.
www.allearsnet.com has a great dining section that gives menus for the various restaurants. Some of the character meals require 2 tableservice credits, I believe.
I like Disney food well enough and some of the counter service restaurants are some of my favorites - I love Flame Tree Barbeque in the Animal Kingdom and the Yakitori House in the Japan pavillion at Epcot come immediately to mind. I also really like the Chicken Salad at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn in the Magic Kingdom. I also generally like the ABC Commisary at MGM Studios.

LLindaC doesn't know what she is talking about. There are dozens and dozons of eating places in the whole disney world complex that are included in the dining plan. These include anything from counter service to upscale sit down dining. My only complaint with most of the sit downs is that they are way overpriced, but with the dining plan that does not really matter as much. There are some very good restaurants (Le Cellier, Le chefs du France, Jiko, Artists Point, California Grille) just to name a few.

LLindaC does know what she is talking about, only I was confused and thought she meant the vouchers. I go to Disney every year, sometimes twice. I'm also a vegetarian, so I'm careful about where and what I eat there. I don't eat junk food.

LLindaC, sorry about that post after I read it I realized it was not what I had intended. How does "LLindaC may have been mistaken" sound!! I just get tired of hearing the blanket statement "There's no good food at disney" when in fact there are some wonderful restaurants even though most are overpriced. Ready to take my 20 lashes.
