digital camera feedback

Hi, for a two week trip to California, i'll take my digital Sony camera, with 128 Mb memory stick, allowing some hundred photos at full quality. Obviously, not enough for the trip. I can either buy another memory stick ( some 100 $, and just for the trip ) or use some photo shops to transfer the photos into a CD. This admiting this kind of shops and services will be found & provided during the trip. What do you think ?

spring for the second stick. First of all, you might run out of space on the stick just as you are about the take the best picture. second of all, why waste time in a camera shop when you are on vacation. It's always good to carry spares. I have a number of secure digital cards for my camera and I never have to worry.

If you take a look at eBay, 128mb memory sticks are selling for about $50. Just noticed a closed auction for a 256mb one for under a hundred. It's the place to buy most commodity-type items.

i'm currently researching this myself, in preparation for a trip to hawaii on sunday.

another tip about getting a new card- check out www.coupon-codes.net and look for office depot coupons... you can get a 256MB card (i'm looking at compactflash, yours may be different) for a little over $50 shipped free.

I vote for the second memory stick too. We got a 256 at Costco for $50!

Kinko's will put your digital pictures on a CD but when I asked how much no one could tell me.

Have you called Kinkos to see if they can help, provided you bring your USB cable. I know many of the one's near me have computers for rent. If they can't burn the CD, you might be able to warehouse them on an online site like Ofoto or even Yahoo for later usage.

I think there are several options here. 1 is to take pictures at less than top quality setting. Depending on how many mega pixels you have, you likely to not need max quality. How many 14" prints do you make?

I am quite sure you can get pictures transfered at most photo shops and even Wal-Mart. In fact my son works in photo at Wal-mart and they have state-of-the-art digital equipment.

I am a fan of carrying several cards in smaller sizes, usually 64MB. When you fill a card it can be stored someplace else...I know a story of camera theft where the camera was replaced but the pics are gone forever. I have used eBay and Tigerdirect for online purchases.
