...is in viginia. That's where we are at this very minute. DW arranged this mystery trip for me. I didn't know where we were going until we got here. About an hour and twenty minutes from dc. We are in a big nice room above the Thyme Inn. We got upgraded because nobody comes to stay in Culpepper on Sunday night. Culpepper seems nice. Elegant old buildings and southern type people. Brunch type people. We had brunch at Foti's. Sausage bruschetta (toast) and egg, cheese and bacon pizza (about $11 each). One bloody mary each. Now we're sleepy. After a nap we'll go look for a disco and dance the night away. Night fever.

We love the Thyme Inn & will be there in September. The room we always get is the one facing the street with a fireplace and balcony. Culpeper is one of my favorite places. Get some better cheddar spread from the Thyme Market.

If you want a diner type breakfast, Frost Diner across the street is a good choice!

Culpepper rec club just outside of town has a pool. If you're very nice they may let you swim there even if you aren't a member. DW did 32 laps (lengths). Tonight we're going to the river inn, as it seems to be the only place open. It's quiet here in Culpepper. I watched the amtrack train come in and drop off a few passengers. That was pretty exciting. The disco is looking iffy.

Love Culpeper- and the rooms at the Thyme Inn are very nice indeed. always enjoyed dinner at Foti's. Glad to see it's still around.

I hope your dinner at Hazel River Inn was good. I had a terrible meal there but it was many, many years ago (back when we were in Culpeper for SD's horse shows).

You fodorites have been everywhere! This morning our plan is breakfast at the Thyme Inn cafe and then go for a swim at Falmouth beach on the Rappahannock river in fredericksburg and then explore fredericksburg a little and then come back to our fancy upgraded room (but no balcony) at the Thyme inn. Tomorrow we drive home. Please let us know if you have suggestions.

I lived in Fredericksburg but that was during the 1980's.

Having said that, get a chocolate malt at Carl's (with extra malt).

If you have dinner at It's About Thyme, save room for the bread and I love their fettucini alfredo. I have only had drinks at their seafood place.

Sadly, it's about thyme, the restaurant, is closed on Sunday and monday. But we might stick around till it opens on tuesday. Now we're having a wholesome salad at the mason Dixon cafe, which was written up in the local paper, and then we'll cross the street and get ice cream at carls. The river swimming at Falmouth beach was really fun. You could prop your feet against a stone, lean forward, and feel sorta like you were surfing against the current. The visitors center showed us a movie about fredericksburg, home of our 5th president, which wasn't that compelling. I bet most of you dummies don't even know who our 5th president was.

hmmm…cant say I know off hand who the 5th prez is, but I do know that Carl's has some good icecream. Sounds like a fun couple days.

James Monroe. George Washington, father of our country, his sister, and his mom also lived in Fredericksburg. His sister lived for many years on the Kenmore Plantation, birthplace of household appliances.

We ate at copper fish last night. Very good, part of the Thyme restaurant and inn group. They got style. Breakfast again this morning at the Frost diner know the corner. Some better cheddar spread from the Thyme market, and then we drove home. Where i am at this very minute. I was just kidding about the birthplace of appliances.

They do have style....we've been going there since it was only the It's About Thyme restaurant. DH and I used to sneak away from horse shows and eat twice a day there
