Tourmobile works fine. Best way to get out to Arlington Cemetery. Take the full tour, then go back to the places you really want to see. For a list of atractions, check http://www.geocities.com/judcomp
There's either a travelogue or an itinerary to help your planning
Always too much to see in Washington.

Depends on what you want to see. If you are interested in seeing just the Smithsonian musuems, then I would not recommend the Tourmobile, since the Mall is easily walkable. It is good for an easy way to see the monuments, if you are not into walking them, and excellent for going out to Arlington Cemetary. Arlington is so sprawling that it is almost necessary to use the Tourmobile to get the full effect.

We did the tourmobile and it worked great, esp. to see all the monuments. You can by a next day ticket in the afternoon for the next day and ride that afternoon for free! 1 and 1/2 days for the price of 1.

Super way to see all the monuments (especially on a nice day) and Arlington Cemetary. My fav is the Jefferson -- the views from there are so lovely, but of course the Lincoln may give you chills if it isn't too crowded. Especially when you are seeing these places for the first time. Don't try to schedule your Smithsonian museum visits on the same day, you could spend a full week visiting those museums. I've lived here for almost 30 years and I usually only do one at a time, maybe two if we're showing out-of-town guests around. The gift shops in the museums are wonderful for special souvenirs. Much cooler than t-shirts. For a few years we traditionally did all our Christmas shopping in the museum shops.
