? is: what about heading to Colorado National Monument after Colorado Springs. That would maybe add 4 hours one way to my trip. Would allow me to go to Gunnison also. Then head back I-70 to Aspen/Maroon Bells area. Is those two places worth the extra hours of drive time?

This being the 5th thread about this, I thought this particular route was not as popular with those replying to you--and they suggested something else, which you readily accepted--but I could be wrong

I will no doubt be on here 2-3 times before my 06/15 takeoff asking the same questions. People pass away over time...new people take their place. I'm looking for the "new" people who may have different opinions. When you travel alone as I do....EVERYTHING has to be 100% taken care of before I leave. I have only a simple Tracphone (Big Easy) with no internet connection...so looking things up while on the trip is not an option. I bought my r/t tickets on Southwest on 12/28/2016. Car rental on he same day. The rest is up for grabs....

This is getting a little boring. Maybe a troll. We have answered these question before. One solution is for you to a decent smart phone so that you can look things on the road. Ridiculous not to adapt to modern technology. I mean - you are spending a lot of money on this trip why would you not have a decent phone?

.... I'm looking for the "new" people who may have different opinions..... Different opinion about what? The mountains don't move and roads stay the same until a landslide takes one out.

I have a Tracphone....thats good enough for me. Had a slight stroke in 06/07 and the Dr. said I should get one. Since that date (almost 7 years) I have got ONE phone call...just to test it out when bought. The phone is never "left on"....turned off after making a call (no more than once a week average. They were ment for emergency's...but it's gotten out of hand.
I have added CNM/Gunnison to the original trip. Need some advice to weather a 68 year old man can do this in 7 days!? Most people my age NEVER go on vacation because of the lack of funds....I can go IF I spend wisely! Seems to be a lot of bitterness on this site. Don said Vets (06-68/06-70) would be treated BETTER under his watch....guess this site never got the memo!?

Don't worry, we got memo. I served 66-73. What was your unit? Second, I have no doubts that Don will screw the Vets at his first opportunity. Already tried a couple of times.

Six years means you VOLLENTEERED!? Who's fault is that?! I came home one day from work seeing my Mom crying at the dinner table with a letter in her hand! It was my time. It's like vollenteering to marry a lady...or being FORCED to marry her! Big difference. I went in 06/68...almost 50 years later...I still can't believe my country did "that" to me. Two years of hell...two years away from my family I can never get back. We are finding out now what I have been saying for years....the BIGGEST crooks are the generals! (Flynn) I threw away EVERY piece if Army stuff that day I got home! NEVER wear the hats you see many Vets wear...never wear green of anything. The bitterness inside me still burns 50 years later....I still can't believe they did it too me!

If I VOLLENTEER to jump out of an airplane....and die when I hit the ground...whose fault is it. When soldiers die now days although sad...who's fault is it!? When people died in Bengazie...although sad....they VOLLENTEERED to go over. In the end....who's fault is it! If they would have asked....I could have got them a job at Walmart. How many people in a course of 20 years have died while working at Walmart?

Opps, I am sorry I opened your can of worms. You need more help that anyone here can provide.

I disagree with you completely. I think there is a lot of merit to a national service program for everyone. Doesn't have to be military but some type of a productive national service. We speak of the current WWII vets as the Greatest Generation but what is often overlooked is many of those vets got their start in the CCC prior to the war. Both are very interrelated. I personally think our society and culture would benefit greatly from a little national service. Not going to happen but would vote for it in a minute. I learned a lot about myself during the service years and think I am better person for it. Would I have done it without draft? - NO.

Why should you be ashamed or even bitter about being asked to serve you country? You had choices. I had choices. I chose to make the best of the situation even though I did give some slight thoughts to Canada. (But, too damn cold.) And I lost friends that I regret to this day. But read your histories - Doolittle Raid, Midway, Patton, etc. and be damn thankful that they were there.

Volunteers that died don't die because they volunteered. They died because WE put them in harms way. We own it to everyone who wears the uniform not to make stupid decisions. Currently I worry about who is making those decisions.

I don't wear the baseball cap either but I don't need to advertise my service. Those who know me know what I have done. Those who don't - don't and it is not important to me. I still have my class A uniform hanging in the closet. Fifty pounds to heavy for it but proud of it.

......The bitterness inside me still burns 50 years later....I still can't believe they did it too me!.... No, your country didn't do that to you. You have done it to yourself. Look in the mirror. We all make choices.

I could have gone to Canada/Mexico...but I stayed and let my country "do it" too me. For the two years I was in....men who vollenterred were always made fun of....laughed at. I thought the more time your in....the more time you have to go. Lucky me...I stayed in the states. MANY who vollenterred did not...
For the people who have vollenterred and died....who's fault is it!?

Get ready for another thread. I have just included National Sand Dunes to the June agenda. If you don't want to commit...pass the thread by. New thread (mith new mapquest map) will be "up" this afternoon. Make sure to look for it. Like I said before...expect 3-4-5 different threads by June 15 takeoff. All with a different version of the trip. If you look up Tripadviser.....I'm on their also.
People new to this site discover it every day. THEY....do not judge!
"NEW trip version for June" will be the headline. Look for it....tell your friends....

Well, I did look on Trip Advisor and see exactly the same thing I'm seeing here: you offer up your trip, knowledgeable people volunteer their time to improve on it, and you reply with a bunch of excuses why their suggestions won't work.

So just have a good trip, man. I honestly hope you enjoy it.
