Any favorite eats in downtown Mountain View, Ca?
I am taking the train up from San Jose to meet an old friend for dinner. It looks like the Castro Street area is where we will meet up. We are open to a variety of cuisine and the price point isn't really important. Good food and a less than chaotic atmosphere is. We'll want to be able to hear each other talk. Thank you.

If you at all enjoy Indian food, some of the best I have had is served at Amber at 2990 El Camino Real. Service is excellent, too, and environment quite conducive to relaxed conversation. Amber Cafe at 600 W El Camino Real is a bit closer to Castro Street and run by the same group, expect it would also be good.

I'll try to keep you not far from the train station.
Probably the most acclaimed place is Chez TJ.
http://www.cheztj.com/ Quiet, refined, and check the menu out for pricing.
A decent fish place is The Cantakerous Fish on Castro.

From there, caveat emptor.
Cascal. http://www.cascalrestaurant.com/site2011/index.asp
Scratch Restaurant. I can't get a working website. Here's OpenTable reviews.

I live in Mtn View. Depends on what kind of food you want to try, there are a lot of restaurants in Castro and downtown is only a couple blocks anyway
If you want Thai food, go North (away from Castro) toward Moffet Blvd. Cross Central Expwy, walk 1 block, you'll see Shana Thai food on the corner of Moffet and Central Ave. Their pineapple fried rice and chicken basil are good. Don't fall for Thai foods in Castro Street, I tried both (third one is closed), neither was good.
If you want Ramen, walk South 2 blocks on Castro, turn right on Villa and you'll see Ryowa. Their veggie ramen is very good. Ryowa special is also popular.
Mongolian BBQ is also a good buffet place for Mongolian noodle.
If your friend has car access, Clark's Burger on El Camino Real right next to Chase Bank is the best burger in town. People are not usually that loud here.
While you're in Castro, stop by Tea Era to try their bubble tea. I don't usually drink these tea but their Roasted Barley milk tea is so good hot or cold (with mango pudding or tapioca).

Most of the places on Castro are pretty good, but as the first responder said, Amber (I went to the Amber Cafe) is fabulous indian food -- loved it!
For those who live up in Mountain View, I have an extra question about Kapp's Pizza place that I learned shut down at the beginning of the year. I was wondering if anyone knows what they did with all the fabulous Cal Memorabilia? I would love to get my hands on some of that stuff!
