Charleston to Raleigh - Road Trip

Hello there

In November my husband and I would like to take a road trip from Charleston to Raleigh - by way of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We can spend 3 days (2 nights) doing this. We're thinking of making our way to Cherokee first and then proceeding up the Parkway. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Where do you suggest staying along the way?

Thank you

Jane

That is a very interesting idea that when I first read it, I dismissed out of hand. However, the time from Charleston to Cherokee is gauged at 5 hours but I will point out, you may go through Asheville to get to Cherokee--and then drive back to Asheville on the Parkway.
I also assume you know the speed limit is 45 MPH and that can get real tiresome.
But driving it up to Boone and then heading west to Raleigh is possible and you will have seen some of the prettiest part of the Parkway.

Hi Gretchen

Thank you for that.

OK - so how about we drive directly to Asheville and then up to Boone and then from Boone to Raleigh??

In looking at the maps, we just saw that the parkway started around Cherokee, and that's why we were headed there - but your idea sounds MUCH better. Thank you.

Here is a Trip Advisor thread about that--4 to 5 hours on the Parkway according to this. And it is scenic.
You could spend a night in Asheville and a night in Boone/Blowing Rock on your trip.
On your way to Raleigh from Boone you could stop in Winston Salem for a nice tour of Old Salem.

Hi Gretchen

Your suggestion is perfect and that's exactly what we're going to do. We've found a good tour in Asheville as well before we head off to Boone.

We can't wait and thank you for pointing us in the right direction.
