Celebrity Spotting's?

Hello All~
Just wondering if anybody has ever spotted, or encountered any "Celebrity's" on your adventure's around the island's???
Lori

GoTravel Apr 25th, 2005 04:38 PM

Do celebs spot?

Just kidding. Every time I've ever recognized someone famous, I usually think it is someone from my hometown.

I once spent 20 minutes talking with Drew Barrymore and didn't realize it was her until we had parted ways. Mr.GoTravel very recently thought Kristen Davis (Charlotte from Sex and The City) was one of his former waitresses when we ran into her in Charleston.

Go Travel, you made me think of years back, I was backstage at a rock show and Paul Wiley, the olympic ice skater was with an aquaintence of mine. I knew the face, and just assumed we had met before, but had no idea who he was....."So good to see you again. How've you been?"....so now he thinks he knows me, but not sure why....I know I know him, but not sure why...we chat....hours later someone says,,,'Hey did you see that Olympic ice skater??? The sky opens up and I realize that never met him, don't know him, but now I've convinced him that he knows me and he's trying to figure out from where.....and yes luvmaui I have spotted numerous famous and infamous people in famous and infamous places on the islands!

We saw David Copperfield as we were coming out of the Coca Cola store in Manhattan one year. My kids always remind me of that sighting because I kept saying "Look it's David Copperfield. Look it's David Copperfield!" Yea, I was real smooth :D

But that was on Manhattan Island, not Maui!

seetheworld Apr 25th, 2005 04:58 PM

Or better said, the island of Manhattan!

travelinwifey Apr 25th, 2005 04:58 PM

Yes, Pierce Bronson at the Kauai airport last September. Extremely handsome man. Has a home in the Princeville area.

There is a very long thread entitled "Have you ever spotted a celebrity in your travels" on this board, hundreds of posts.

luvmaui71 Apr 25th, 2005 05:22 PM

Thanks, Great start. Sorry I wasn't aware of the other subject. I'll check it out.
BUT, anymore in the "island's"? We once ran into "Sonny" as in Sonny Bono, coming out of a coffee house in Lahaina. Nice man.

This February while waiting in line at the Maui airport, we were in line with Kris Kristopherson. Great looking in films and better looking in person.

mitchdesj Apr 25th, 2005 05:40 PM

Dh and I were at the Ocean Club in Nassau recently and I saw Dustin Hoffman every morning between 7 and 7:30 in the library;
he's an early bird like me and they served coffee at 7 a.m. so there he was, barefeet.

On the second night, we saw him and a large group of young people get into limos to go out to dinner.

The hotel staff said that Robert DeNiro was at the hotel the week before.

travelinwifey, I'm assuming you mean Pierce Brosnan ? lol....

dusty56438 Apr 25th, 2005 09:28 PM

luvmaui71 - I also saw Sonny Bono once. I covered up the hole real quick and promised myself I'd never dig for worms in a cemetery again.

In January, at the Royal Hawaiian, Carol Channing sat at the table next to mine during lunch. What a cutie--she wore a white sailor suit and had her hair tied in pig tails with bright red bows. She was with her husband and agent / assistant. My waiter told me KC & his Sunshine Band were there the week prior--said they were the nicest group of people, great tippers--did a little dance, made a little love, got down at night ;-)

beentheretwice Apr 26th, 2005 05:32 AM

I must not be vacationing in the right spots....:-(

luvmaui71 Apr 26th, 2005 06:06 AM

I'd LOVE to run into Pierce. WoW!

I saw Woody Harrelson in First Class and at Kahului, Maui airport from DFW to OGG last May. Very nice, quiet guy. He's very slim and good-looking in person. I worked up the courage to finally approach him at the airport and was having a small conversation until another girl rushed up and "gushed" over him.

beachbum Apr 26th, 2005 08:28 AM

GoTravel,
I'm the same. MANY years ago my wife and I were sitting in an orientation, having just arrived at Club Med Moorea. The guy across the aisle looked very familiar; I told my wife I thought he worked in a department store in downtown Portland. When we overheard him say he "worked in film", it clicked that he was Beau Bridges. Nice guy! We later played backgammon and ping-pong together.

Little_Man Apr 26th, 2005 08:52 AM

Beachbum,
I met Beau Bridges too! I went to college at the U.Of Maryland, in Munich, and he was filming a movie in Germany and came to our little army base to watch Kramer vs. Kramer! I paid for his ticket! Nice guy, very unassuming and friendly.

Scott Hamilton at the gate for a flight from Boston to LA. Chatted for a while until he went to 1st class and I waited for the cattle call.

Richard Gere in NYC standing next to me waiting to cross a street.

I was once a tour guide at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park in Montana and Demi Moore took a tour along with kids, friend, and nanny.

Saw Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at a grocery store in Kapaa, Kauai in 1986. Funny thing was, he's so tall his head was sticking up over the top of the grocery shelves, so we could see him slowly pushing his cart up and down the aisles.

anita Apr 26th, 2005 07:09 PM

Pierce Brosnan and family were on our flight to Kauai in March. Very handsome but I thought he looked kind of sickly. We also saw Flav Flav?? in the airport that day. Our kids recognized him butI had no clue who he was.

David Robinson was on our flight to Maui Dec. 2003. We were sitting right behind first class. We didn't ask for it, but the flight attendant asked him for an autograph for our son. He also gave him his Sports Illustrated magazine.

On Oahu in Feb 2002 a few days after the Pro Bowl we saw Tom Brady at a breakfast buffet. Missy Elliott at the big Nike store on Kalakalau Ave and Jon Lovitz at the International Market Place. We kind of stalked Lovitz because he was our "first" offical siting. I didn't beleive my hubby that it was him so we went around in circles and followed him.

Sorry about the typos, I'm half asleep!

gyppielou Apr 26th, 2005 07:43 PM

I spotted Kris Kristopherson's and Woody Harrelson's homes in Hana while flying a trike.......does that count! And Tyra Banks had an annoying photo shoot at Redsands beach, which prevented us from feeling free to feel free....the horror!!! How dare they intrude on our paradise!!!!!!!!

LoveItaly Apr 26th, 2005 09:05 PM

I guess seeing our Mayor on one of our downtown city streets doesn't count does it?

travelinwifey Apr 26th, 2005 09:49 PM

Interresting comments regarding Pierce Bronson. When we saw him he was with his wife. The reason I first noticed was because he was dressed so well. He was sitting right next to the gift shop where everyone walked by going to the gate.

Regarding looks, very handsome, one of the most handsome men I have ever seen. Tanned (but not like George Hamilton lol) with distinguished crow's feet and a nice bod. As you can see I have the hots for older men=P~ He could ring my bell anytime;;)

cmcfong Apr 27th, 2005 03:31 AM

I saw Tom Selleck on Oahu several years ago. He was filming an episode of "Magnum P.I." I got terribly excited so my husband fired up the video camera and sent me off to get some photos. I spent about forty minutes watching him. When we got home and ran the video all we had was a tape of my feet and a voice over saying "Oh, my God, he is gorgeous." over and over and over....naturally it is the family joke never to give me a camera if it is a sight worth saving. He is, by the way, gorgeous.

cd Apr 27th, 2005 04:20 AM

:-) reminds me of when we were walking past Buckingham palace and Queen Elizabeth and driver came through the gate. There were only about 5 of us on the sidewalk and she waved at us. My husband had the camera around his neck and fumbled to take a picture. When the picture was developed, he had taken a picture of her driver!

crazy4Hawaii Apr 27th, 2005 05:16 AM

I saw Jack Lord in Honolulu back in 1977 when Hawaii 5-0 was still being filmed there. This past summer I saw Wilford Brimley at the concierge desk at the Grand Wailea. A friend of mine saw Owen Wilson surfing at Waikiki about three summers ago while she was on her honeymoon. She ran for her camera while her husband detained him...

luvmaui71 Apr 27th, 2005 05:48 AM

HI!
You guy's have certainly seen a variety of "stars".
Tom Selleck (SIGH) love to have experienced that....
Lori

Meesthare Apr 27th, 2005 06:16 AM

Please please please forgive me for this, and I know everybody will flame me for it and I don't blame you one bit, I truly don't, but - plurals do NOT have apostrophes! As in "spotting's" "celebrity's" and "island's".
I'm sorry. I have this compulsion. I can't help it. I will try to get treatment one of these days. I promise.

luvmaui71 Apr 27th, 2005 06:24 AM

Sorry for the bad grammar. : (

MaureenB Apr 27th, 2005 06:56 AM

We once saw Ed Bradley getting his shoes shined in the Denver airport. Morgan Fairchild shopping in a department store in L.A. The baseball Cardinal Willie who-did-backflips-in-the-outfield at the St. Louis airport.
A college friend of ours is now a big international star, and we have been in public with him several times. It's certainly a different perspective on that side of the coin. People go crazy and get very pushy and obnoxious, elbowing us and his other friends out of their way to stand by him. He takes it all in stride, but it must get old really quick. After one night of it, I'd had enough. Can't imagine a life of it.

MaureenB Apr 27th, 2005 07:05 AM

P.S. I think his name was Ozzie Smith-- not Willie something.

Lex1 Apr 27th, 2005 08:00 AM

Thank you meesthare. Read as fingernails on a blackboard sound.

Ozzie Smith was a shortstop.

chepar Apr 27th, 2005 10:17 AM

They filmed an episode of "Lost" at the cathedral at my daughter's school one day last fall.

My daughter and some friends got to meet the guy who was in Lord of the Rings - "the Hobbit", they called him. They said he was very friendly, spoke with them for a while and took pictures. Trying to drop her off for school that morning was a nightmare, though.

The only person close to a celebrity I've seen is Phil Keoghan from the Amazing Race - met and chatted with him several years back in New Zealand, right after AR1 aired. Very nice man - friendly and personable.

tinathetoad Apr 27th, 2005 10:42 AM

I was on a small American Eagle plane from Chicago O'Hare to Lansing, MI, and sat across the aisle from Doug Davidson; he plays Paul from Young and the Restless.

I was so sure that it was not him; but I kept staring at him the whole time, thinking "it looks like him". He knew that I was looking at him too.

I was thinking why would he be on a plane to Lansing, MI?

When my mom picked me up, and he got in a Limo. I told her the story, and she told me that there was a Soap Star thing at the Lansing Center on Saturday.

pspercy Apr 27th, 2005 04:09 PM

Chico
KK and Willie have been known to "jam" in Hana where they both have homes. Locals like 'em a lot apparently.

highbay Apr 27th, 2005 04:37 PM

Six years ago, my husband and I hosted a party for the son & daughter (both were getting married one month apart) of a friend of ours. During this party, a guy came up to me and struck a cordial conversation.

I couldn't place where I knew him, but was certain that I did. To say the least, I was busy entertaining guests and missed the hub-bub gossip going around! Seems this nice guy that was at our party was Bruno Kirby... Billy Crystal's side-kick in City Slickers, and several other Crystal films.

I didn't find out until the following morning when one of the quests called to ask me if I got his autograph!!!

He apparently was engaged to a relative of the people we threw the party for.

Grasshopper Apr 27th, 2005 05:58 PM

No offense Luvmaui, but Meetshare, that's been driving me crazy too. :-)

Ozzie Smith's son was on American Idol this season.

luvmaui71 Apr 27th, 2005 06:34 PM

I'm sorry.

Lori
