Mid-Century Modern/Contemporary Hotel or B&B in CA Wine Country
My wife and I are making our first trip to the California Wine Country, July 28-July 31 and have some "safe" chain hotel reservations while we look for what she really wants...which is a chic, modern/contemporary-styled hotel with pool (& maybe even spa). Mediterranean-style would be our second choice. Most of the B&B's I've seen so far have either a farm, or an antique, Victorian-era feel, which we do not enjoy. A nice dinner restaurant on property or with a short drive would be nice. Exact city does not matter. Napa and Sonoma are fine, but so are any of the other towns/villages in the wine country, and a rural country venue is fine too. Any suggestions for a 3-4 night stay? We would like to stay around $350.00 per night or less.

Healdsburg seems to be a favorite with many Fodorites. Check these out. http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/heald...alifornia.html
California Wine Country is a very broad term since grapes are grown from Redding to Bakersfield.

Meadowwood?

It's not mid-century or really modern, but isn't the fussy B&B type either. I don't know if the rates will work for your dates but you could look.

The Farmhouse Inn and Restaurant in Forestville: http://www.farmhouseinn.com/ Good central location in Sonoma County; excellent on-site restaurant, lovely accommodations that are not "frilly" . . .

Suggestions above are nice: you may want to look also at a group of small Inns;no rest. onsite but they do serve a lovely full breakfast and happy hour w/food. Four Sisters Inns

Here's the place you want: Healdsburg Modern Cottages http://healdsburgcottages.com/
A friend of mine stayed there earlier this year and absolutely raved about the place. The style should be just what you're looking for.

Some friends stayed at the Solage in Calistoga--too modern for them, so it may be what you are looking for.

You might also find the Carneros Inn to your taste, it was developed by a client

I have no idea what the rates are in either place.
