Cape Cod in March?

I am thinking of taking a 3 day escape in cape Cod in mid-March. SOme people say it is great as no one is there, others say most shops will be closed. Any ides? Which city on the Cape shall I stay if I want hikes or bicycle trails? Where do I find most attractions in winter?

ThankS!!!!

Elina,
The "Cape" is relatively quiet at that time of the year and there will be less people , traffic in the major areas like Hyannis. The good part is that the many seafood restaurants won't be too crowded.
For shopping on a budget, try the Christmas tree shop (its a large windmill) just south of the Cape Cod canal. There is also a small mall with a lot of variety just across rte. 6 from there. Hyannis also has an abundance of shopping malls and motels/hotels.
I would'nt suggest biking in March because of potential freak snow storms. You can walk along the canal, however which is several miles long. Bring a sweater. Its great to bike on in Summer.
Another often overlooked area of the Cape is near Falmouth and Woods Hole. They have Marine Science College and a small aquarium there that is great for a quick visit.
Have fun!

I really enjoy the Cape at off-season times, like March, the best. Hate the summer crowds! Be sure to go prepared for all sorts of weather, including snow and cold cold wind. The Fodor's Cape Cod guide has some great ideas for "off-the-beaten-path" things to do. The drive along Rt 6A from Sandwich eastward is very nice. The Fodor's guide highlights many stops along the way that are worthwhile (especially if you enjoy nature and scenery).

My suggestion for your three days.

Stay in Chatham. Perpaps the Wayside Inn. Chatham is not your built-up-strip mall part of cape cod. You can experience a coastal drive up to Provincetown one day. Have Lunch at Chathams Bar Inn and walk the beach at Lighthouse Point. There's a bike path you can pick up at the next town in Brewster (if you're lucky enough to have a mild weekend). It's a lovely part of Cape Cod with lots of charm and "old cape cod" things to do. Have fun.
