Cable Car question. Cost and does a pass exist?
I have a 2001 San Sanfrancisco travel book and it mentions $2 for the cable ride. Is this still the current rate? Are you given any transfers to use throughout the day? Does a multi pass exist other than the Citypass. Since we will only be in San Francisco for 4 days and only plan to visit the Exploratorium I don't think the citypass will do me much good. My old book mentions the citypass entitles you to 7 day unlimited cable rides and 50% of 24 of the city's top attractions but the citypass.com website only offers a total of six attractions including the cable cars. Am I missing something or has citypass reduced the number of attractions?

Roosterlady,
The fare for Cable cars is still $2, and you will neither receive a transfer from that ride, not can you use one to pay for it. (A transfer is good for 90 minutes from the time it was issued.)
You might want to look into 3 day PASSPORTS for your family. These are much cheaper than the CityPass.
Here is a website for more info:

The cable cars are indeed $2.
I forgot how much a pass cost. Some of the bus shelters have maps with fare information.
Transfers are good for at least 90 minutes and can be used for any route, including returning in the opposite direction. The bus only costs $1 ($1.25 soon). So, it may be cheaper to pay for each ride. I think that this is true for most people who use the 3 day pass. The 10 and 5 day passes are cheaper per day.

Weekly pass is $9, unlimited ride on all MUNI lines, additional $1 for a cable car ride, does NOT include any museum admission, but some museums give you discount for riding MUNI, like the Legion of Honor.

Visitors bureau sells 3-day passes for $10 and 7-day passses for $15, not sure what's included.

This may sound strange, but the cable car guys have never asked me to pay.
I have ridden on them several times (even when empty - only 5 people on) and I have never had to pay. I always have my money out, but then I get to put it right back! Weird!
