Buckhead HELP!
I am looking for some fun bar/restaurants in Buckhead. We will be staying in Buckhead.
I am going Feb 18 - 20. Just looking for something to do.
Also, We would like to go to the comedy club.
We have heard of Dads Garage, Punchline and Uptown Comedy Club. What would be the best for 5-7 20ish white girls.
I only say that because we got into a bit of trouble last year in Chicago, because we got off the subway in a bad area and one of us got our purse stolen, targeted because we were obvoiusly tourists. We stuck out like a
sore thumb in the area we were in.
Anyway - any help would be appreciated.

Buckhead is an upscale business/shopping/entertainment (and residential) district in north Atlanta. Years ago (before the gradual movement of Atlanta's 'core' northward), it was considered a suburb. Now, it's home to the more expensive Atlanta neighborhoods. The bar and restaurant area is compact enough to walk around in until you find the right place for you & your friends. Couldn't give you the name of hottest places; they tend to change. There are many to choose from. You should find plenty to do; if the weather is agreeable, lots of the places' outside decks will be crowded. Oh, to be young and single again.

Hi Amber. I lived in Buckhead a couple years until I met my husband and moved to Midtown Atlanta 5 years ago. We don't visit Buckhead often since we tend to walk rather than drive on the weekends, but I still have a couple favorite restaurants in Buckhead that are still popular. Both are in restored houses and both are low-priced for the quality/atmosphere. Anis is French and has a great Library room wine bar. It's very cozy, but I have seen several groups there (at Peachtree and Pharr, walk south on Pharr and turn right on Grandview). I would definately recommend Ciao Bella for excellent pasta and a lively atmosphere. It's run by good looking Italians (Pharr Rd. at Grandview). Metropolitan pizza is pretty good, and it's right on Peachtree. Bars and pricy restaurants are all over Buckhead.
As far as Dad's Garage, it's in a different part of town and the area's a bit rough. I hear the Punchline is in Buckhead, but I'm not sure about the other. Have a great time!

So my wife likes good looking Italians. Hmmmmm.
I will strongly second Anis and Ciao Bella. However, I must respectably disagree with the recommendation for the Cheesecake factory. It is truly horrible.
I'd also recommend Cafe Tu Tu Tango. It's the perfect place for a group. It's high energy with an arty decor (artists working while you eat) and serves everything in small plates so you can order a lot of different things and share. It's right in the center of all the bars so I would consider it a must first stop.
Like Steve above, I'm hesistant to make bar/club recommendations as things change often up there and we haven't been to Buckhead for a while (too many good looking Italians). But I'll take a stab. Fado is a nice Irish themed pub. Chili Pepper used to be a hot place to party and dance (probably still is). Oxygen is anther place to dance. For the hottest new places, ask your concierge or look for the longest lines.
Have fun and welcome to Atlanta.

Amber: I have lived in Buckhead for 15 years. You have an unlimited number of choices. For expensive sophisticated dining: Segars (way expensive but great), Nava (wonderful southwestern), Blue Point (new, Asian/American). Also great-Maggianos (Italian), and for the truly great place that is very reasonable and fun Anis. Comedy ?-I would go to some of the many different nightclubs-plenty of humorous sitings.CEW

I was probably a little hard on the cheescake factory. It's a personal taste thing, and the place is probably still packing them in, so you're certainly not alone in liking it.
My problems wiht the place are:
The hideous decor (faux marble columns).
The HUGE menu - how can a kitchen possibly be able to cook so many things well?
The food quality - the 2 times I've been, the food was either cold (obviously reheated from frozen) or just blah.
The portions - this place's shtick (sp?) seems to be their huge menu and their huge portions. Unless you take it home, much food will be wasted. I don't understand this idea that a lot of people have of quantity = quality. It's just wasteful to me.
The service - we've always had clueless teenagers.
Having said that, there certainly is a lively atmosphere and the prices are very resonable for Buckhead and for the quantity of the food you get (even if you can't eat it all).
CEW makes some good recommendations for high-end dining (Seeger's just got its 5th Mobile star but will run you $150 a person!) and Maggiano's is a great recomendation for a group. Also consider Fratelli di Napoli - a short cab ride down Peachtree Street.

CEW - I love your comment about about the humerous sitings at the nightclubs.
Isn't that the truth.
Anyways, we will be doing that that for a few nights, but a couple of the girls wanted to do something different one of the nights other than the whole bar scene. Any recommendations???

The Punchline is probably Atlanta's top comedy club, it is located in Sandy Springs which is about 15-20minutes from Buckhead. It's a fairly easy drive if you have a car or you can take a cab. I think Dad's Garage is actually more of a theatre with specific productions at different times.
A place that's a bit different and located in the midtown area is Loca Luna-it's a restaurant specializing in Tapas(small portions of different things) with a whimsical decor and great salsa type music(at least on weekends) lots of people dancing, eating and generally having fun.

Hello down in Atlanta!
Maybe some of you can help me too.
We will be coming down for Superbowl
next weekend. GO TITANS!
Anyway, I have heard about a new huge
mall down there, the Mall of Georgia.
I am trying to get a website for the mall to find out all of the stores and
restaurants in the area. I have tried AccessAtlanta and no luck. Does anyone
know if they have a website?
Also I heat that in Atlanta Journal
Constitution there was a article in
todays paper titles "Great Places to
Shop", I was trying to access this on
AJC website and no luck. I do not know
what section of the paper it was in.
After typing all of this, I am realizing
I should have put my own thread or whatever you want to call it in instead of putting it under this Buckhead one.
Well I'll let it set for a few days and see if I get any feedback.
Any help would be wonderful!

Titans fan: The Atl. Journal-Const. web site is http://
www.accessatlanta.com/partners/ajc/
If you really need a shopping fix while you're in town, the new, massive Mall of Ga. is up I-85 north of downtown. Might take 30-60 minutes in rush hour to get there. You'll recognize it easily -- the mega-mall on your left with its own freeway entrance/exit ramps, total lack of trees and huge parking lots. Has big chains - Rich's, Macy's, Nordstrums, plus everything else a true shopper would want.
Another option is an upscale (J. Crew, Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, etc.) discount mall about 45 minutes north of downtown on Ga. 400. Good shopping, and good luck Titans!

Uh oh. Looks like Steve lost power or his connection or something (we're still recovering from this weekend's ice storm).
I would argue that there is no reason to travel so far out of town to shop when there are 2 very good malls right across the street from each other in Buckhead. Lenox square is huge and upscale and Phipps Plaza is super upscale. There's even a free shuttle bus running between the two. They're at the corner of Peachtree and Lenox Road.

Jenna - I hope you are in Atlanta by now and did not get stuck anywhere. I am down in Atlanta and they are beginning to cancel a lot of flights. Because of
the storm I would recommend that you stay close do not try driving up to the
Mall of Georgia unless the roads are clear. I don't know if your used to driving in snowy or icy conditions, but I am originally from Michigan and I am telling you they do not know how to drive in this stuff down here. I would not recommend going past Buckhead, they have everything you could need there.
Have a good time!
