The storm just missed us here in Albany NY. It snowed all morning but we got maybe an inch and a half, a pretty coating but disappointing for those of us who love a good snowfall!

It's even cold (but not snowing) here in North Central Florida - 37 degrees and due to be below freezing tonight.

Suffolk County, NY---It finally stopped snowing and as i was about to go clear my car off to go to work tomorrow AM (we had at least 18 inches), someone knocked on my door asking if i would like the driveway shoveled & car cleared! YESS!!!!

We're in New York City. It took my boyfriend 2-1/2 hours to get from Queens to Brooklyn on the subway. Many different problems at many different points - the elevated trains seemed to be having the most trouble.

Here in Buffalo we have nothing. But if we did have the 12-24 inches that other places are getting we'd sure know what to do with it! We'd be open and ready for business in the morning.

Final official total in Central Park was 26.9" of snow - a new record. We spent most of the day inside, trying to keep an almost 2 year old entertained. We took her to the Park to go sledding for a little while, but she really doesn't like being the stay-puff marshmallow baby all bundled into a snowsuit.

No more snow is expected, roads are passable and the public schools will be open tomorrow, so life will return to normal very quickly.

KathyK - all I could think of reading this was what you all in Buffalo or in the mountains out west must think of us east coasters totally shutting down b/c of a foot of snow.

I can understand places with record amounts being stymied, and here in Phila. 18" is considered a lot. Other than record amounts, I don't consider this storm a blizzard and I don't consider it national-news worthy. But apparently the news folks here disagree.

One news story this afternoon showed a local road buried under the snow at 10am. Then it showed a van getting stuck. (That was riveting footage). The next story showed the same road after the snow plows went by. It was totally clear of snow. Wow! That's really news-worthy, No? The news' snow coverage drives me crazy. I wonder if the fact that our VP shot someone is even getting mentioned.

North of Boston checking in. I think we have somewhere around 15" but there seem to be wide fluctuations.


I am checking the school closings (some things never change) because even though we have next weel off, I could really use another dayoff.

We went out last night and places were already planning on closing for today.

Here in Minnesota we are having a pretty "dry" winter. The cross country skiier in me envies you; the shoveller in me feels your pain!!

THE BAD NEWS: 24+ inches of snow here in NYC

THE GOOD NEWS: mid- 50°'s by the end of the week.

I have to also laugh at the Buffalo comment. We just came home from trying to go out to dinner. Most of our Favorites were closed down even a Burger King was closed. We ended up at Olive Garden. I will be forever thankful for Olive GArden.Hmmmm I never thought I would here myself say that one!! PHL Suburbs. We are Shut down after 12 inches of snow.

It's really strange, but for the last couple of years Buffalo has hardly had any snow at all, while places like Boston, etc. have been getting slammed!

Last winter was mild, and this year is even milder! Not that I'm complaining... :-)

I think there must be something to the global warming theory!

San Diego got up to around 75 degrees today...kind of warm here. Have not seen any snow as of yet!

Sheesh... well, it will be a snow day today since the LIRR isn't running!! Such crappy train service.... here on the North Shore of Long Island, we had about 20 inches of snow and bad flooding (LI Sound) yesterday morning during high tide!!

OH MY GOD...39 in Fort Lauderdale this morning..and I have to go to work :( I don't handle the cold too well, as I've been here for over 30 years and my blood resembles water with a little red added. My heat is on for God's sake!!! It supposed to get even colder tonite.

Philadelphia schools are actually closed today. We're in the suburbs and have a two hour late opening. To be fair, Phila. is an old city with a lot of very narrow streets.It's hard for the plows to get in and clear them.

I know what your mean, schmerl! We have a lot of narrow streets in this old city, too. We're just more used to it, that's all!

I've been thinking about visiting Philly for a weekend this summer!

Buffalo Girl, Oh for SURE a slight inconvience. I have to hand it to you people you know how to handle that white stuff. I am originally a San Diego girl. Many years ago I knew a girl who was from Buffalo who had relocated. She had said there biggest problem back then was "where to put the snow." I guess they resolved that one by now! In all fairness the roads in PHL are very narrow, and it is difficult to get the plows down there. The main roads are taken care of first. It does always amaze me how New Jersey roads are always kept up better than Pa. I know I work in NJ. Big difference!!

i don't envy the nyc folk as the temperatures rise. nothing worse than those 10 foot slush puddles at every corner as the snow melts. YUCK!!

i loved it when the snow was coming down, hated it for weeks afterward.
