Blizzard of '06

This may only pertain to the Northeast but how much snow has everyone gotten so far?? We got about 5 inches of snow overnight and it's still coming down. Are you planning to stay inside most of the day and avoid driving?

tuckerdc Feb 12th, 2006 09:18 AM

I'm just reading about close to two feet of snow in Manhattan and came to Fodors - sure there'd be lst hand reports! But so far....sno-go, it seems.

janiekins Feb 12th, 2006 09:21 AM

I live north of Boston - we have 11 inches so far and still snowing very hard!!

stever Feb 12th, 2006 09:24 AM

10 inches in Silver Spring MD.

Got some killer snow pics today in my yard. Nothing like a shot of the car with all that snow on it. It's so beautiful here. Don't take this the wrong way you southerners, but I'd never live in the south or year round warm weather areas of the US! I like the change of seasons.

I am in Cambridge on a project and can't believe the snow! I lived here for 5 years, but this is my first winter in 3! We are at about a foot and I have decided to bundle up and head outside because we need wine. At least I am catching up on my e-mailing and trip planning.

Claire

gomiki Feb 12th, 2006 09:33 AM

Only about 6" here on the the Mid-Cape (Cape Cod). 10-14" predicted. NOTHING like the 3+ FEET we got last January in the blizzard!

lindafromNJ Feb 12th, 2006 09:42 AM

Here in NJ we have 18 inches and it is still coming down but starting to slow down. We are staying in and making
Martinis!! It is quite cold and windy as well. Too bad this did not happen on a workday!!

asdaven Feb 12th, 2006 09:45 AM

I live an maryland and measured 15" out in my yard but the roads are not too bad.

SandyBrit Feb 12th, 2006 09:50 AM

Hello from St. Louis - only snow flurries in this part of the country but very cold.

Sandy

nytraveler Feb 12th, 2006 09:54 AM

The official record from Central Park as of a couple of hours ago was 23" - making it the second highest snowfall in history - right behind '48. But it's still snowing - so who knows?

(Our street - granted residential - but in Manhattan - not the outer boroughs - hasn;t even been plowed once yet - although the avenues are passable for buses.)

Gekko Feb 12th, 2006 10:12 AM

If you have any thoughts of traveling into Manhattan today, don't.

I have 5 foot drifts on my Upper East Side terrace and officially NYC has had over 2 feet of snow -- and it's still coming down.

I was out today and travel is difficult. Many subway lines are down, including the 7 and Lex Ave express lines, and travel by bus is hit-and-miss.

lolfn Feb 12th, 2006 10:22 AM

we only got about 6-7" on maryland's eastern shore. the sun has been out since this morning and it is already melting. with highs forecast in the 50s by mid-week, it won't be hanging around long.

lcuy Feb 12th, 2006 10:31 AM

Both my daughters are new to the Northeast (Boston & NYC) and have been bitterly complaining about the lack of a "real" winter.

I told them to be careful what they wish for!!

Its fortunate timing for Hawaii's Pro Bowl this afternoon though...the contrast of 80` and sunshine will be very good for tourism!

Sunshinesue Feb 12th, 2006 10:36 AM

No snow, but FRIGID temperatures in north Florida. 51 right now. ;)

nytraveler Feb 12th, 2006 10:48 AM

Frigid? We have a high of 27 today - and with the wind chills the evening temps in the northern suburbs are going to be 5 below.

SiestaLinda Feb 12th, 2006 11:26 AM

Yes, even us "Southerners" are feeling the chill--no snow--but a very cold 50 degrees--no sun--and alot of wind. We were supposed to drive to the Keys today--no thank you!! Will stay inside, make chili and stay warm!!

MikeCT Feb 12th, 2006 11:28 AM

20 inches on the ground here in lower Fairfield County, CT!

palmsgirljan Feb 12th, 2006 11:28 AM

Snow total from Manchester, NH is only about 6-7 inches so far. Supposed to snow the rest of the day, so who knows!

mrwunrfl Feb 12th, 2006 11:33 AM

0", zero inches of snow so far here in Seal Beach, California. It's 83F and sunny, so I could put on a t-shirt and go down to the pier to see if it is snowing there, if you want, but I don't think it is.

diann Feb 12th, 2006 11:36 AM

Suburbs of PHL. I think 12-15 inches. It is over now. We are "digging out." I am a Calif. person. I remember the days in sunny Calif. Yes go see if it is snowing there!!

BTilke Feb 12th, 2006 11:40 AM

Friend of mine in Philly was supposed to fly USAir today to San Diego for a conference. All the non USAir flights his colleagues were taking were canceled but USAir insisted he come in, that the flight was "definitely" going to take off. Drove down in the snow to the airport, sat at the gate for over two hours past the scheduled departure time (that is, a total of nearly 4 hours of hanging around)...flight canceled. He's rescheduled to fly tomorrow morning.

enjoylife Feb 12th, 2006 11:41 AM

It's 82 here in Los Angeles. However, a bunch of friends of mine are in NYC on vacation and were supposed to go to a Broadway show this afternoon. I haven't heard from them. Hopefully, the theatres didn't close. I looked at one of the Livecams in Time Square and plenty of folks are walking around.

BarryK Feb 12th, 2006 11:44 AM

About 20 inches a little north of Phila with drifts almost up to my waist!

AnnMarie_C Feb 12th, 2006 11:46 AM

I am so envious of you folks getting snow. Just got off the phone with my mom who lives in Maryland near the PA / Del line--they've had 13 inches of snow so far =:)

stevefrat Feb 12th, 2006 12:06 PM

I live in University City, Philadelphia. I've taken a few measurements around the house. They rante from 11" to 14".

diann Feb 12th, 2006 12:07 PM

BT and we wonder why US AIr has problems? They are the local airlines in PHL. Home base. Usually they are pretty good pulling themselves out of Bankruptcy but still disorganized at times. Your friend is lucky to be going to S.D I am sure they will be up and running very soon. My son left out of JFK for Israel last night at midnight. I was surprised they got out!! Very surprised!!

stevefrat Feb 12th, 2006 12:11 PM

Ugh - that should be "range from...".

sunnydelite Feb 12th, 2006 12:13 PM

Just outside Boston (about an hr)and snowed about 10-11 inches...It is still coming down pretty hard.... Gusting at 35 mph winds............
I love it!

jamaltay Feb 12th, 2006 12:17 PM

I just got home from playing a round of golf here in Phoenix. The temperature is currently 78 and sunny((#)) Of course the great weather didn't do a thing for my golf score:-( Oh well, have a great day.
((B))8-)

tuckerdc Feb 12th, 2006 12:30 PM

Should be interesting to watch the news tonight. Those network anchors always act like snow on the E. Coast is so much more important than anywhere else! Not that a foot to two feet isn't pretty impressive! I still have fond memories of Chicago's 27-inch blizzard, back in....'66? '67? That hassle went on for weeks and weeks....

schmerl Feb 12th, 2006 12:40 PM

I live outside Philadelphia. We got 18 inches. As much as I hate shoveling out, it brings the neighborhood together when we're all out there helping each other.

LTCM17 Feb 12th, 2006 12:50 PM

Here in northwest Jersey, we got about 12"-15" of snow...
After shoveling out we got bored and put on our bathing suits and took pictures outside in our lawn chairs with a beer and sunglasses and sent them to our southern relatives and friends... maybe they'll take pity on us..... ((h))

laclaire Feb 12th, 2006 12:56 PM

OK. I got the wine. Enough said.

Claire

Sunshinesue Feb 12th, 2006 01:03 PM

LTCM17,
Post a picture and provide a link. We would love to see it!!!

John Feb 12th, 2006 02:07 PM

Just returned from my daily walk here in Nortwest Montana. Temp is 36 degrees and sunny.
Hardly any snow on the ground here in the valley but LOTS in the mountains. Great skiing, snowshoeing etc!

claire01 Feb 12th, 2006 02:08 PM

Lots of Marylanders on here...adding to their report, a little southeast of Frederick, we received 10 inches...but family in Columbia, MD reporting 21 inches! but the roads are clear, and no ice!

J_Correa Feb 12th, 2006 02:30 PM

Yep - pretty nice outside here in SJ. Washed the car, did some gardenning, hung the sheets out to dry in the sun. It wont last though - a cold front is coming in. By Thursday we aren't even supposed to get into the 60s. :)

Scarlett Feb 12th, 2006 02:35 PM

Bright blue skies and about 55 here in Portland Oregon.
I do not miss the snow yet. :)

HonestAbe Feb 12th, 2006 02:50 PM

I lived in southern cal for a while. The seasons were:

75 and sun
70 and sun
65 and gray
70 and partial sun

I need variety too..... thank goodness for blizzards (as long as everyone is safe!)

mrwunrfl Feb 12th, 2006 03:07 PM

Nope, no snow yet down at the Seal Beach pier. Should have worn shorts since it is 88F.
