Best waterproof makeup for swimming, etc?

I take as many beach vacations as possible, and as I get older (!!) I need more and more cosmetic "help" to look presentable on the beach! I have found some good waterproof mascaras but am wondering if any women out there can recommend waterproof foundations, shadows, etc. that will last at the beach or pool. Nothing too too heavy because this all goes over sunscreen -- although waterproof foundation WITH a high SPF would be fantastic!
Slam me for being "girly," but I like to look good on the beach. And a bright red lipstick can draw attention away from any (ahem) "flaws" that might be visible in a bikini. Hee hee!

Use a tinted moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or above. Maybelline Great lash mascara and lipfinity don't come off.

go to qvc.com and order some dermablend, althought this is normally used to cover birth marks and scars it is possible to get a very natural cover and it is 100% waterproof.my sister uses it to cover up a tatoo she no longer likes and will not go swimming without it.

You can get permanent eyeliner, eyebrows and lipliner if this concerns you. Call your local Beauty School and ask who in your area is certified to do these procedures.

I have heard of the dermablend items also...they are supposed to be wonderful.

A friend has the permanent eyeliner and when we were on a hiking trip I could not believe how good she looked compared to the rest of us in the morning! If I weren't a wimp I'd do it, LOL!

Any eyeliners that don't come off?

By the way tried dying my eyelashes and that didn't work at all! You need a lot of eyelashes I guess!

I use Lancome waterproof eyeliner and mascara and it works great. I don't know if they have other waterproof products.

LOL. I am the same way. I have worn makeup to waterparks before.

I bought some stuff for a vacation last year. Clinique has "almost makeup" foundation which has great colors and feels very natural on (I use medium and am pretty light). It is oil-free and waterproof with SPF15 with lightweigt coverage.

They also have gel blush in different colors (I have honeyed red)which is fade proof. Says remove it with soap and water. It adds a hint of color again very natural.

Sometimes, it was hard to find Dermablend or Caremark in a color that looked natural and it is hard to take off. You will have to get a stronger cleanser to take it off. But I recognize that there are situations with scars and such where it is a godsend. I used it on my scars on my feet after bunion surgery for a couple of years.

I need good eye colors or eye liners which will last. I use my clinique smudge liner in violet (very pretty color) and just make sure I smudge it completely and remove excess before heading to the beach. It works ok.

I am 49. One of the joys of vacations, for me, is leaving that makeup bag at home. All I take is moisturizer and sunscreen.

Am I alone?

I with you, Sue. I like to take a vacation from my "morning routine" as well. Makeup and hair take so darn long, I don't want to waste time on vacation doing them when I can be out enjoying the fresh air. I have NEVER brought a hairdryer on vacation - screw that!!

SueH and suzanne, I'm guessing you are both married -- ??? Your husbands love you "as you are" and you might not feel a need to look "put together" at the beach/pool.
That's not meant as a disparaging remark, married women are hotties too, I just think single women feel more pressure to look "done" on vacation. You never know . . .

I just put globs of conditioner on my hair and slick it back into a bun, Elizebeth Arden SPF 30 for faces on my face, and a red SPF15 lipstick on and I'm set. I redo the conditioner after the beach and it keeps the salt water out of my hair.

Tansy, go to maccosmetisc.com and take a look at the studio line (even better if you have a MAC store where you live - not counter, but free standing store, this line is not available in dept. stores). They make a "Face and Body Foundation" that is very light and waterproof. As the name implies, it can be used for face and body (great stuff for models' legs on photo shoots). Minimal SPF (8, I think) but you can apply the foundation over a good moisturizer with hi SPF (I use Estee Lauder Daywear, excelent moisturizer with SPF 15). As eye-shadow goes, MAC makes a cream one (that dries in seconds), it comes in a tiny tube and it's called - what else? - MAC paints, definitely waterproof. There's a light champagne color (I wish I'd remember the name) that, if used lightly on the browbone and a bit on the lid makes a great eye-opener. Looks teriffic with a tan, also.
I'm with you with the bright red lipstick. (BTW, BeneFit makes a liquid stain that "does" cheeks and lips, lovely with a touch of gloss over it - not bright, more like "bitten lip" - lovely). Let me know if you have anymore questions. Good luck and have fun.

Hi, Tansy!
I love the tips this post generated. But if you're still wearing a bikini, girl, you won't have to worry about your face.
I always have problem with the waterproof mascaras once the moisturizing SPF gets wet! Any advice on that?
Now, I'm going to go make my list of summer "must haves!"

I lived by the beach for years. The best waterproof make up is a good tan and chapstick. Leave the rest at home unless you enjoy the moniker "Raccoon Eyes". *chuckle*

Tansy, I'm a never married hetero female who doesn't wear make up at the beach. I wear tons of sunscreen though to keep my pale skin from burning.

If I'm going scuba diving I wear my cruddiest swimsuit and don't worry about what others think. I also have a 'muck' level of clothing for canoeing.

instead of mascara, why not try Revlon's new Overtime Lash Tint. It's supposed to last for three days and all the beauty mags give it rave reviews. I'm definitely going to try it for the humid summer in DC.
(and there's a coupon in today's paper for it).

And, instead of foundation, maybe try some self-tanner first?

I'm also a snorkeler/diver and spend about a month a year in the Caribbean where it is extremely humid.
I know this will sound really vain, but I wear make-up even when diving.
I use self-tanner on my face, and there is a gel-based eye liner by Bobbi Brown that comes in a little pot that is great.
I also recommend Lipfinity lipstick, and have always used Maybelline's waterproof mascara, but I'm going to buy Lancome's new waterproof Definicils for my dive trip in April.
I am blonde and blue eyed, and not a "natural beauty," so I MUST wear make-up in order not to scare fellow divers (and fish
I've never been able to find a good foundation that didn't streak, and I tan everywhere except my face, so I just apply self tanner to face to match body as I get darker.

Tansy: Nope, I'm not married.

Dreamer2 is right...guys seem to care more about the bod than the face. With my big hat and sunglasses there's not much face to see anyway...LOL.
