Best company for Car Rental to drive San Diego to San Fran?
Just making sure there are no horror stories with any particular company! We are a family of four renting an SUV in San Diego, and returning it 10 days later in San Jose. National seems to have the best rate, but doesn't even require a credit card to hold the reservation. Will there really be a car waiting for us? Avis has the next best rate. Is either company easier to deal with or to get to at the San Diego airport? How about return convenience in San Jose? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Why did you put San Francisco in your header? San Jose and San Francisco are as different as day and night.
San Jose's airport car rental return is very easy. It's all in one spot. Pick the rental car agency that suites you best.

If they have a Thriftys there, I would rent from them. We just rented from them in Las Vegas and they were awesome. No problems with the car, we did hit a tire on the freeway but we bought insurance and we just walked away. They were super friendly and didn't give us any attitude about it. But whatever company you go with, get insurance, it's so worth it.
