This is so timely, because I just returned from Kauai and the Westin, Princeville. They are really struggling to survive, from what I can surmise. The restaurant is closing for breakfast in another 10 days. That seemed so odd to me. What do they expect their guests to do?
They are not the friendliest staff, for sure. Our unit was wonderful - absolutely great - huge, efficient, and comfortable in every respect....except that parking is about a half mile from the units and that is no fun at all. And you can't see the ocean from most units. (It is a timeshare resort.)

I only go to Kauai for the beaches, so I prefer the resort to be on the beach. We stayed at the Westin as part of the arrangements for a wonderful wedding we were attending, so the lack of a beach was tolerable. And because there are many wonderful beaches all over the island, I decided to enjoy my comfy surroundings and drive to the beaches. I love Hanalei Bay and all the beaches right to the end of the road! I like Annini, but not quite as much as some others.

Loved our dinner at Postcards Cafe!!!!

And Bubba's did fill a certain need one day ;-)

Another Postcards fan!

iceeu2 - I will certainly tell Uncle that when I see him in July - and knowing him, whether or not he remembers you, he will be gracious and say kind things - a true Hawaiian gentleman! I've been trying to get him to do a crafts table at our Hula Ho'ike in February for years now, but he is pretty set in what events he partakes in - as I said, I'm looking forward to Koloa Plantation Days!

Hanalei Jun 7th, 2009 06:22 AM

Iceeu2,
Thanks for posting the trip report and photos, especially of the opihi pendant. Your pics brought back memories, especially of Hanalei Bay and the pier. 17 more days. Woohoo!!!

iceeu2 Jun 7th, 2009 08:02 AM

Hi Hanalei...so what good priceline one nighter did you score this time???? I always bid and bid on priceline when I need a few nights(and am never successful on Kauai) and then I see where you get a great place!! I love the photo at the pier where the kids are all sitting side by side waiting for the sunset. Have a wonderful time in 17 more days!!

Not the usual chuckles, but I enjoyed your report & pictures as much as ever, iceeu2. I trust you guys are healthy & feeling better now. I may have to start saving my pennies for that bikini fest in 2013! But, you'll have to promise me you guys are done with the getting sick on your vacations!

olesouthernbelle Jun 16th, 2009 05:47 PM

Also, I missed it if you said earlier - where is the brick located?

iceeu2 Jun 17th, 2009 04:18 AM

Hi OSB, the brick is at The Kilauea Lighthouse. Sorry this does not have as many chuckles as in the past. I guess if you had returned the blasted crown in good shape instead of losing some of the jewels, it might have been a different story! We're finished being sick on vacation, so save your sheckles for July, 2013! There will be a pahtee going on in Hanalei and Kapaa and Koloa and just all over that Garden Isle!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the words of one great president, " There you go again...."

abranz Jun 19th, 2009 08:32 PM

loved your pictures.
you looked fabulous - not fat! - and sooo happy.

i'm curious, what is the story behind the brick?

iceeu2 Jun 20th, 2009 12:39 PM

Well, thank you abranz. Aren't you nice?

A few years ago they were doing a preservation project at the lighthouse and sold bricks to raise money. iamq, gyppielou and I each threw $25 each into the pot to help the cause.

gyppielou Jun 20th, 2009 12:56 PM

good friends

iceeu2 Jun 21st, 2009 08:49 AM

good friends indeed....and, if I would proofread, I would see that each is duplicated!!!!((r))

iamq Jun 21st, 2009 09:07 AM

I will sprinkle the brick with plumeria blossoms and do a hula around the brick when we are there next summer.

Mary2Go Jun 21st, 2009 11:46 AM

iceeu2,

Thanks for the report and making me hanker for another trip to the Ole Hellhole.

We have stayed at the Waiohai several times and enjoyed it. What did you think of it? Are they keeping it up nicely? We were always treated very well by all of the employees. For awhile it was hard to get a room there but I noticed last time I was fanatasy planning they seemed to have lots of rooms available.

iceeu2 Jun 21st, 2009 12:57 PM

bbq, I want a photo of you doing the hula around the brick!!

Mary2go, yes, they are keeping the Waiohai up very nicely. The next time we will ask for a garden view room instead of an ocean glimpse view!!

iceeu2 Jul 3rd, 2009 02:55 AM

Hey wahine..........if you see Juny tomorrow be sure to tell him that Donna & Charlie from GA said hello. And....ask about the baby boar!! Aloha.

wahineokauai Jul 4th, 2009 04:29 PM

Aloha from Kaua'i!

The actual Koloa Plantation Days crafts event that he attends isn't until Sat., July 25 - so plenty of time before then!
